Why did Princess Kate undergo the Three Peaks Challenge?

The endurance event saw the Princess walk 23 miles, climb 3,064 metres, and travel 462 miles between locations. This ambitious challenge was deeply personal for Princess Kate, as it was aimed at raising vital funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - the very hospital where she received her own cancer treatment. In a moving message, the future Queen reflected on her journey, explaining that she took on the mountain peaks not merely as a physical trial, but as a meaningful opportunity to explore life beyond a diagnosis and champion the profound importance of holistic healthcare.

The exhausting weekend was concluded with a heartwarming reunion at the bottom of Mount Snowdon, where a triumphant Kate was greeted with a warm, proud welcome from her husband, Prince William, her three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis - and her doting parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

When Princess Kate revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, her brother shared a childhood photo from a hiking trip, he wrote: "Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too."

He previously told HELLO! that he felt like he had "three mothers" growing up – the family's matriarch, Carole, as well as sisters Pippa and Kate.

An impressive physical achievement

The gruelling challenge would be tricky for most, but considering Princess Kate's previous cancer battle, it likely would have required extra grit and determination. HELLO!'s head of audience, Tim Kiek, who previously completed the challenge, said the climb would have taken real fortitude for the royal to complete.
