From the riveting gameplay of The Traitors to the deeply addictive drama on Love Island, reality TV offers something for everyone. And we're not the only ones who are hooked on the genre – viewers might be surprised to learn the royal family have been known to indulge in a few popular reality shows over the years.
While appearing on the recent episode of Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler's podcast, Prince Harry revealed he's one of the many who have tuned in to ITV's Love Island. When asked what his "favourite trashy TV show" was, the Duke of Sussex admitted he's watched the cult romance series before. However, his father King Charles doesn't seem to be much of a fan.
In light of Harry's unexpected TV confession, here are the reality shows that have royal fans…
Prince Harry clarified on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast that while he's tuned in to Love Island before, he's not a regular viewer.
"I have watched Love Island. God, I don't watch Love Island, I have watched Love Island. There's a big difference there," Harry said.
Surprisingly, he's not the only senior royal to be questioned about the romance drama series.
Love Island UK host Maya Jama took the opportunity to ask King Charles if he'd ever watched the show while attending a Buckingham Palace garden party in 2024.
"I host Love Island. I don't know if you've watched it? It's a dating show," Maya said in conversation with the royal, to which Charles replied: "There's one born every minute!" Seems like it might be a no from Charles then.
The Traitors and it's star-studded spin-off, The Celebrity Traitors, have captivated TV fans across the nation. From host Claudia Winkleman's iconic gothic wardrobe to hilarious one-liners from the likes of Alan Carr, the highly addictive yearly showdown between the Faithfuls and Traitors has made the franchise an undeniable hit.
And among the many who count themselves fans of the show is the Prince and Princess of Wales.
While receiving his Order of the British Empire (OBE) in October, television producer Stephen Lambert revealed Prince William was just as excited for the new series of The Celebrity Traitors.
"[Prince William] said he and the family were very much looking forward to watching it. It was going to be a big treat for them and probably for the nation, he expected. And I told him about the fact that our celebrities have entered into the game with great seriousness," Stephen said.
Did you know Queen Camilla counts herself as one of Strictly Come Dancing's "greatest fans"? In fact, both her and Charles have been longtime viewers of the dance competition.
Speaking exclusively to HELLO!in 2018, then host Tess Daly revealed the royal couple never miss an episode.
"Camilla is a fan, she has been to visit us in the studio before and she spent half a day with us and it was wonderful, she was absolutely part of the whole process during the dress rehearsals, at the judge's desk, handling the panels and she really enjoyed her day," Tess said.
"She's such a lovely lady and she actually invited all of our crew to Buckingham Palace two years ago and we filmed part of our routine there for Christmas. She is a patron of the Osteoporosis society so she hosted it for members of the charity in the ballroom in Buckingham Palace."
She continued: "It was just wonderful and she was part of it and she had a dance with our pros and it was just such a wonderful day, so it's a huge compliment that her and Charles are fans of the show. She's told me they watch together so I hope they enjoy the series."
The Real Housewives franchise has been around for more than two decades with countless iterations and has made big names out of the likes of Bethenny Frankel and Lisa Vanderpump. It's made fans out of numerous A-listers like Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker, and even the Duchess of Sussex once.
In 2022, Meghan Markle had Real Housewives host and executive producer Andy Cohen on her podcast, Archetypes, and admitted she had been a "fan" of the Bravo franchise.
"I was so eager to be on your show [Watch What Happens Live]because I was such a Housewives fan at the time and I just couldn't get booked, Andy!" Meghan admitted to the TV star.
Andy then took the opportunity to ask the Duchess of Sussex the big question: does she still tune in to TheHousewives drama?
"Well, I will tell you the truth. I stopped watching The Housewives when my life had its own level of drama that I stopped craving..." Meghan said.
"I get why it was such a huge, huge part of pop culture. And when it began, because you began with Orange County and I'm from California, at least it felt remotely like a world that I knew, but still felt so foreign," she explained.
Along with the family favourite The Traitors, Prince William has revealed the countryside series Clarkson's Farm is a particular hit with one of his children.
While meeting with farmer Kaleb Cooper earlier this year, the Prince of Wales shared that his son Prince George is a fan.
"You’ve got George watching now. I said to him, 'What shall I say if I meet Kaleb?'" William told the farmer, according to ITV News.
"He said 'Tell Kaleb to mind his language'," the royal relayed his son's cheeky message.
