Duchess of Kent's huge fortune she left behind in her will – and who will receive it

The Duchess of Kent has left behind more than £1.4 million in her will – the majority of which is going to her children. 

Katharine, who was married to Prince Edward, Duke Of Kent, the late Queen's cousin, for 64 years, passed away last September aged 92. 

Probate records published on Monday revealed that she left £1,433,696 in the UK, according to the Daily Mail. 

The majority will go to her three children, George Windsor, 64, Lady Helen Taylor, 62, and Lord Nicholas Windsor, 55.

She has also given £10,000 to her charity, Future Talent, which she co-founded in 2004 to create opportunities for young musicians from low-income backgrounds across the UK. 

In addition, £5,000 will go to each of her nine godchildren, Catherine Cameron, Tania Astor, Clare Kerr, Amabel Kerr, Emma Scott, Christopher Morrell, Edward Marsh, Andrew Burley and George Anandraj.

Her personal possessions, such as jewellery, furniture, and homeware, will go to her husband, but may be distributed out. 

Her interest in a property in Kensington will be left to her grandson Edward, while income from the family trust will go to the Duke of Kent, and the remainder of the estate will be left in trust for her three children. 

Remembering the late Duchess of Kent

Typically, wills of royal family members are kept private, but the late Duchess stepped down from royal duties in 2002.  

Her will was drawn up in 2022 and signed "Katharine Kent" – a final sign of her humility during her lifetime. 

When she stepped down from royal duties, she dispensed of her HRH title, telling the BBC: "Call me Katharine". She then worked as a music teacher at Wandbeck Primary School in Hull.

She told the Telegraph in 2022: "I was just known as Mrs Kent, Only the head knew who I was. The parents didn't know and the pupils didn’t know. No one ever noticed. There was no publicity about it at all - it just seemed to work."

Katharine Worsley married the Duke of Kent in 1961 at York Minster, going on to welcome their three children. She and the Duke of Kent also had 10 grandchildren.

The Duchess of Kent's funeral took place on 16 September 2025, with senior members of the royal family in attendance.

King Charles was joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Princess Anne, while Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson were also present for the service at Westminster Cathedral. 

Queen Camilla, however, did not attend, as she was recovering from acute sinusitis, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

The service marked the first Catholic funeral for a member of the royal family in modern times.
