Do the Prince and Princess of Wales share a bed? Inside the sleeping habits of the royals

Royal bedrooms are pretty spectacular with plenty of space, decadent décor and grand beds, and many of the palaces have multiple bedrooms.

While many of them will be used by guests, some members of the royal family have famously never slept in the same room.

Prince William and Princess Kate

As of 2025, the Prince and Princess of Wales now live in Forest Lodge instead of Adelaide Cottage. William has previously confessed that he does share a bed with his wife, but the royal couple are also often joined by their pet dog, Orla.

During a 2024 visit to Duchy College Stoke Climsland, William spoke to Louise Harland and met with her dog, Jacks. Louise later said on Hits Radio Cornwall: "[William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate."

The Queen and Prince Philip

Just as depicted in the Netflix series, The Crown, it is believed the late Queen Elizabeth II and her late husband Prince Philip did not sleep in the same bed, or even the same room. After all, Buckingham Palace had plenty of rooms for them to choose from – they could have stayed in entirely different wings if they wanted to!

Philip's late cousin, Lady Pamela Hicks, revealed that the move is favoured by the British aristocracy in Sally Bedell Smith's 2012 biography of the late monarch, Elizabeth, the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch. "In England, the upper class always have had separate bedrooms," she explained, without directly naming Elizabeth or Philip.

"You don't want to be bothered with snoring or someone flinging a leg around. Then when you are feeling cosy you share your room sometimes. It is lovely to be able to choose.

King Charles and Queen Camilla

Do King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla follow in the traditions of the late Queen? The royal couple have an array of royal residences up and down the country. They have their main property, Clarence House, in London as well as their country residence, Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.  

It has been rumoured that the King and his wife have three bedrooms, one each and one to share, however this has never (and probably won't ever) been confirmed.
