Prince William's towering stature and charming smile are well known the world over, and it turns out he has a celebrity doppelgänger. Presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle has outed himself as the royal's double, revealing he used to get mistaken for Prince William when he was travelling in years gone by. After sharing a smiling snap alongside the Prince on Instagram to his 700,000 followers, fans were astounded by the resemblance.
"Crikey you two are the spit of one another!" wrote one of Ben's followers, and another added: "The visual similarity in this photo is striking." A third penned: "Funnily enough - my partner said the same when we were watching Graham Norton last week!" A fourth simply commented the word: "Twins."
The picture was taken during Ben and William's trip to Botswana together in 2010, to film the television documentary Prince William's Africa, which highlighted William's conservation work. Prince Harry was also on the trip alongside William and Ben.
Ben's caption on the post explained his experience with the future King: "I love looking back on chapters of my life. This is a throwback to when I travelled across Botswana with Prince William for @tusk_org. It was a fascinating journey and a privilege to spend time with the future King, while he shared his passion for conservation. Something we are both passionate about. When I was younger, I was often mistaken for Prince William.
"People used to stop me all the time and ask where my security were? One of my most memorable nights was camping in the Okovango Delta with Princes William and Harry. We made a beautiful film which is still available online which culminated in me running the Lewa marathon for Tusk. Happy days….."
Ben Fogle's royal wedding blunder
Ben even attended the 2011 royal wedding of Prince William and bride Catherine, alongside his wife Marina and his sisters-in-law. However, the couple encountered a blush-worthy moment, clashing with Queen Elizabeth II momentarily.
Explaining the situation, Ben previously wrote in his Telegraph column: "We had been asked to arrive at Westminster Abbey early – two hours, I recall. So early that Marina needed a pregnancy-induced wee just before the bride and groom arrived. "My sisters-in-law seized the opportunity to join her in a not insignificant dash across the Abbey, getting caught in the aisle just as the Queen arrived." He then added: "I remember my face reddening at that."
