Virgin boss Richard Branson has reportedly splashed out £8 million on the most expensive apartment in Sydney. The tycoon's opulent new pad boasts a private cinema and a revolving dining room with views over the harbour.

Located in the exclusive Cove development, the apartment is one of two "skyhouse" penthouses designed by renowned architect Harry Seidler. The palatial home also includes 1000 square metres of hand-plucked marble and a roof-top pool.

But perhaps its most amazing feature are the five Japanese-designed electric toilets. "They open and close electronically, they are heated and they wash and dry your bottom," explained estate agent Peter Keras. "The dining room revolves and takes in 360 degree views from the Heads to Darling Harbour."

The jaw-dropping price tag attached to the property outstrips the £6 million Russell Crowe paid for his home in nearby Woolloomoloo Bay. But current owner Kovelan Bangaru, who has travelled all over the world to source fittings for the apartment, says it is worth every penny.

Once ensconced in his new bolthole, the inimitable Mr Branson will be able to look out over one of the most magnificent skylines in the world. The city's renowned Opera House and Harbour Bridge are both nearby, not to mention the sands of Bondi Beach.
