The historic streets of Vienna are a long way from Wisteria Lane, but Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher seemed more than happy to leave the dramas of her hit TV show behind when she jetted into the Austrian capital. And despite the overcast skies that were looming overhead, the svelte actress was sporting a broad smile as she rolled up outside the Royal Opera House in a horse-drawn carriage. Teri decided to make a flying visit to the picturesque country in advance of her appearance in Leipzig for Tuesday's World Women's Awards.
The 40-year-old's onscreen persona doesn't seem to have the smoothest of rides when it comes to relationships, so she'll no doubt have enjoyed the famously romantic sights of Vienna. Lying on the banks of the Danube river, the city's narrow streets and medieval squares make an idyllic destination for any loved-up holidaymaker.
People in search of culture and history also flock to the metropolis. The majestic architecture of the Imperial Palace and along the Ring Boulevard are among its most famous landmarks, though the city is also a hotbed of artistic activity, with dance, theatre and film festivals taking place throughout the year. Classical music is another local speciality, with The Wiener Philharmoniker and Vienna Conservatorium among the world's finest orchestras. Given that its former residents have included Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss, it's small surprise Vienna has a rich musical heritage.
