After a day off on Monday, May 18 (which wasn't explained), Sheinelle Jones returned to TODAY the day after, albeit a little worse for wear.
The TV personality, 48, shared right up top as she and Jenna Bush Hager settled into their seats that she was in pain due to suffering an injury the day prior.
"Oh no," Jenna remarked, seeing her co-anchor sit down with a grimace, telling the studio: "Okay, Sheinelle's injured," and the mom-of-three couldn't help but laugh.
"I've self diagnosed myself, I don't know if this is the official diagnosis," Sheinelle explained, revealing that she woke up the day before with a frozen shoulder.
The Mayo Clinic describes a frozen shoulder, also called "adhesive capsulitis," as a condition involving "stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint," in which "symptoms typically begin slowly, then get worse. Over time, symptoms get better, typically within 1 to 3 years."
It also adds: "Having to keep a shoulder still for a long period increases the risk of developing frozen shoulder. This might happen after having surgery or breaking an arm."
When Sheinelle asked if Jenna had ever experienced one, she confirmed she had, although not as bad as Sheinelle was at the moment. "Mine, it started yesterday, and by last night, it was excruciating," Sheinelle continued.
"And I don't take a lot of medicine, so for me to take an Advil…it's really hurting, I slept on my left side," she added, even showing Jenna that while she was able to get both of her hands up to her shoulder, the frozen one couldn't go any further without leaving her in pain.
It was so bad that Sheinelle even had to ask their colleague in the wardrobe department to help her put her dress on and had to stand still while doing so. When Jenna asked: "Are you going to listen to your body?" Sheinelle did affirm that she hoped to "slow down" a bit.
The pair discussed that much of her condition could also be apparently explained by perimenopause, with Sheinelle confirming that she did some reading that detailed women in their 40s experiencing conditions like frozen shoulders more often. "It's not fair!" she quipped.
Jenna then joked that maybe what didn't help was Sheinelle deciding to join "Midnight Sun" hitmaker Zara Larsson on stage when she appeared at the TODAY Plaza, effortlessly nailing her viral "Lush Life" dance.
"Did I whip my arm out of socket," Sheinelle joked, and Jenna further quipped: "I think, [Zara] broke her shoe, and you broke your shoulder." Sheinelle further mentioned that this was the third time in six years that this had happened to her.
In fact, the last time it happened to her was actually back in 2023, when she danced on stage with Janet Jackson during her tour. Sheinelle, a lifelong Janet fan, actually met the "Escapade" hitmaker on the show in December 2022, where she was invited to join Janet on her tour and spoke with her backstage for a segment as well.
"I had to get a cortisone shot back there so I could dance," she even detailed, although in Jenna's eyes, having to ask for help putting her dress on was when she knew it was getting bad.
