Anne Hathaway has responded to "distracting" rumours that she has had a facelift.
The 43-year-old's youthful appearance has been the talk of the town in recent months after she displayed a tighter visage during press tours for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Despite sharing her simple trick to help her look "more awake" in an Instagram video in March, speculation that she had undergone plastic surgery didn't slow down.
The technique involves her hairstylist, Orlando Pita, creating two hidden braids at the temple, which are secured at the back of the head, creating an instant facelift effect without cosmetic surgery.
Anne has now broken her silence on whether or not she has had a facelift in a new interview published on May 21.
"I wouldn't say pointed. But we're at a time when people feel very confident in assuming what they think is fact, and sometimes what they think is accurate and sometimes it's not," she told Elle.
"My preference would be to never comment on anything and to just live in the mystery and not draw attention to myself, but the speculation has gotten so loud that you do feel the need to just get your truth out there.
"And I'll probably always wonder, 'Should I have posted that or not? Should I have just kept going and done the thing that makes me happy and makes me feel more confident on the red carpet?' But I felt like the conversation was becoming distracting."
Anne clarified that she has not had a facelift, but she does utilize the clever hairstyling trick.
"By the way, these are huge medical decisions that people are presuming. I wanted to show that like, 'No, I didn't make a huge medical decision. It's just two braids."
That's not to say that she would rule out plastic surgery in the future: "And by the way, the other thing about all this is, I might still get a facelift someday," she added.
While Anne's trick may seem like an easy and non-invasive fix, Fresha hair expert Danielle Louise warned that it could severely damage the hairline and create even more problems if done incorrectly.
"Anne Hathaway's look has taken off because it gives that polished, lifted red carpet finish without needing a treatment," she told HELLO! "It's clever styling rather than a real facelift, and when it's done properly, it can create a beautiful, lifted effect around the eyes and cheekbones."
The expert warned that social media users were often doing the trick incorrectly and causing tension, headaches, breakage, and a damaged hairline.
"Start with two small, clean sections of hair from the temple area or just above the ears," she advised. "Gently pull them backwards, either twisting or braiding them, and secure them flat behind the head with discreet grips or a small elastic."
She added: "The aim is a subtle lift, not pain or tightness. You should feel the hair is secure, but you should not feel your scalp being pulled. Then style the rest of the hair over the secured sections so the technique is hidden."
