For Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, a life outside the Hollywood bubble at their home in Old Snowmass, Colorado is truly the best way to live.

Kurt, 75, and Goldie, 80, have been together for over 40 years. While they first met when Kurt was a teenager on the set of a project where Goldie was a dancer, they didn't reconnect until the early '80s, eventually getting together on Valentine's Day 1983.

Since then, they've cemented themselves as one of the entertainment world's most beloved power couples, sharing four kids (and eight grandkids) between them, plus homes around the country.

But their favorite place to be still remains Colorado, with Kurt looking back on the decision to move to the snowy state with Goldie 40 years ago during a conversation at a Madison FYC panel in Los Angeles.

Telling People that being there allows him to do the things "that I want to do," he added: "What I want to look at, what I want to be a part of — all the things that Colorado has to offer. I wanted to eventually get into the ranching life."

"When Goldie and I got together, a couple of years later, we both built a ranch there together, where our family has grown up. That was 40 years ago," he explained, noting that they were initially met with a mixed response upon deciding to relocate from Los Angeles to Colorado.

"I wasn't escaping. I was just living where I live," the Escape From New York star noted. "I was fortunate that it really didn't make any difference. But when I did it, nobody else was doing that. I had many people tell me, 'Well, that's goodbye. That's it.' I said, 'Well, we'll see.'"

At this point, the couple couldn't be happier about the decision they made all those years ago. All four of their kids have been raised there to a degree (Goldie welcomed Oliver and Kate Hudson with ex-husband Bill Hudson, Kurt welcomed Boston Russell with ex-wife Season Hubley, and the couple share one son, Wyatt Russell), with Wyatt now living in Colorado full time.

"I don't dislike LA," he added. "It's just not my preference in terms of how I like to live my life. You've got to understand something about the area of Old Snowmass. Everybody who lives there, they live there because they want to. I can't say that about LA."

He previously shared with Fox News that the feeling was definitely mutual, with the Private Benjamin actress preferring Colorado even more so. "What I enjoy most is that she really likes it in Colorado," he told the publication.

"Wyatt and Meredith [Hagner] and their two boys, they live in Colorado now," Kurt gushed. "So we like to spend as much time there as we can."

The pair have even raised their four children primarily in Colorado

"I'd like to be there more. And there's a different kind of life there. That's primarily it. I'd like to be able to spend as much time there as possible."
