Savannah Guthrie opened up to Jenna Bush Hager on June 8th's Today show and gave an honest and tearful update on her mom, Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.
Four months after she went missing from her home in Arizona, Savannah continued to hope and pray Nancy is still alive.
She spoke to her co-host and best friend, Jenna, in a candid conversation in which she revealed how she found the strength to return to work while Nancy was still missing.
"I cry every morning on the way to work and I cry on the way home," she said as she fought back tears. "I'm grateful to have good friends, and to be able to come to such a beautiful and joyous place."
Expressing her grief to Jenna, she added: "I can't really look at you without crying. You are my best friend and it is really hard to come back and I've been trying so hard to hold it together. I promise I will."
Finding support
She told Jenna: "When I see you in the morning, I know you see me. No matter what. You are my family."
Savannah explained that her Today family are so supportive. "I don't think if I had another type of job I would have been able to come back," she said.
At times, she did ponder: "What else should I do?" But reminded herself that her mom would have told her to: "Just keep going."
Savannah's return to work
Savannah admitted people have wondered how she could go on and thought she may have forgotten about her mom. But she sternly said: "No, never."
Jenna said through tears: "Neither have we. We will have your back."
Savannah concluded the conversation by saying: "We still need everybody's prayers. We wish someone would call with what they know."
What happened to Nancy Guthrie?
Nancy is believed to have been taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen on January 31, where she attended a family game night at her daughter Annie and her husband Tommaso Cioni - who dropped Annie home.
She was reported missing the following day after failing to show up at a friend's house to watch a church service online.
The case continues to remain active, with Nancy's disappearance reaching 100 days on May 11. On day 100, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told local station KOLD-TV: "I believe, at some point in time, we will make an arrest on this case. We're not going to give up on it just because it's been 100 days."
