TODAY's Savannah Guthrie returned to the morning show after a two-week hiatus. The 54-year-old journalist took a few weeks off to enjoy the end of summer. Finally back at the anchor desk, Savannah shared that she felt the back-to-school energy.
"It's back to school week," the NBC News anchor told co-host Craig Melvin, adding: "I'm bringing you a shiny new apple at 7:30am." Craig went along with the school theme, saying: "And you've got your highlighter there!"
During Savannah's time off, she made her first public appearance outside of her time on TODAY since the disappearance of her mother Nancy Guthrie when she attended a U.S. Open match on Tuesday, August 25 alongside her husband Michael "Mike" Feldman.
The journalist's 84-year-old mother disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona earlier this year, and was reported missing on February 1. Seven months have passed since her disappearance, believed to be a kidnapping, and the local Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are jointly conducting the investigation.
Outside of work and the ongoing investigation to find Nancy, the mom-of-two was getting her children ready for their new school year. Savannah's kids, Vale, 12, and Charley, nine, go to school in New York City. In 2024, she celebrated Vale's elementary school graduation, writing: "When did this happen."
This year, Vale is set to start seventh grade while Charley is headed into fourth grade!
