The 155th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale starts on Thursday, July 16. And while Scottie Scheffler won last year's tournament, the pool is wide open.

Royal Birkdale, which is on the west coast of England, was first established in 1889. Competing this year are Scottie, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Jon Rahm, among many others. The winner is set to take home a total prize purse of $17.75 million, with the Champion Golfer of the Year taking home a top cash prize of $3.2 million

So, ahead of the tournament, let's dive into the net worths of the players at Royal Birkdale, and who is the richest.

Rory McIlroy, 37, has already won a major this year. In April 2026, he bested other great golfers at the Masters Tournament. And throughout his career, Rory has won six major championships, including an Open Championship in 2014.

These wins padded his net worth. The golfer is reportedly worth between $250 million and $350 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. In 2025, the Northern Ireland-born athlete was the 17th highest-paid athlete, making some $87.9 million.

Aside from earning millions from his sport, Rory has partnerships with brands like Nike and TaylorMade.

Jon Rahm

It's been three years since Jon Rahm, 31, won a major tournament. But that hasn't lessened his impressive net worth. The Spanish golfer is reportedly worth $250 million. During his seven seasons on the PGA Tour, he earned roughly $51 million.

And in December 2023, Jon signed onto LIV Golf, reportedly earning some $300 million. Since then, he's earned more than $87 million in LIV winnings. The golfer also has partnerships with Callaway Golf, Maestro Dobel Tequila, and VistaJet.

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie won last year's Open Championship, and is looking to go back-to-back. The 30-year-old golfer is one of the most prominent golfers on the PGA and has amassed quite a net worth.

Scottie, who has won four major championships, is estimated to be worth between $100 million and $125 million. In just 43 days during 2024, the athlete earned $19 million in PGA Tour prize money. As Scottie racked up more wins, he became wealthier and wealthier.

Outside of golf, Scottie has many endorsements from Nike, Rolex, and NetJets.

Like a few of his competitors, Jordan Spieth has won The Open Championship before. The 32-year-old took home the title in 2017. It was the last major he's won, so he's looking for redemption.

The professional golfer is reportedly worth some $120 million and is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. Between June 2017 and June 2018, Jordan earned $42 million from salary and endorsements.

The golfer's worth isn't just in prize money. In 2016, he bought a 10,000+ square-foot mansion in Dallas, paying some $7.5 million for the home.

Brooks Koepka is aiming to win his first major since 2023. The 36-year-old is a high-profile player on the tour.

He is worth some $60 million. And it grew after he joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league in a deal reportedly worth around $100 million, one of the largest player contracts in the sport's history.

After playing in the LIV Golf league for three years, Brooks applied for reinstatement to the PGA Tour, forfeiting eligibility for PGA Tour bonus pools. The financial impact of rejoining the PGA was estimated to be $90 million.

Justin Rose has won just one major championship, the U.S. Open, in his career, and that win was 13 years ago. The British golfer is the oldest on the list, but he has accrued quite a net worth. Justin is estimated to be worth $65 million.

Outside of the PGA, the golfer won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when golf returned to the Games after a 112-year absence.
