Country music legend Shania Twain looked younger than ever as she took to the stage for a performance on Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonsporting patent-leather pistachio-colored hotpants and a sheer green bedazzled shirt.

The 60-year-old showcased her svelte legs as she danced around the stage in the look, which was completed with brown boots and an array of chunky gold jewelry.

A new era

Shania is currently experiencing a career renaissance; she opened for her friend Harry Styles at his sold-out Wembley Stadium residency in June and July, and she is dropping her brand new album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24.

The "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" singer revealed that she felt better than ever in her 60s after a rough start to life.

"I started life out a little bit on the tough side," she said on CBS Mornings. "In my 60s now, I feel like I've really gotten it, or I'm just now getting all of that right."

"You know what it is? It's called time," she continued. "I'd love to have been able to get it right in my 50s, but I just – that wasn't enough time. I needed to be in my 60s to start getting it right, you know?"

Finding her voice

The star added that she felt voiceless for decades due to her upbringing in an abusive household. "When I was younger, I was so over-responsible for the household," she recalled.

"My mother was depressed a lot of the time. She spent a lot of her days in bed. She lived off coffee and cigarettes that I would bring her in bed just to see if she was still alive."

"There was a lot of violence in the house," Shania said.

"And we didn't eat well a lot of the time. We weren't clothed properly a lot of the time…And only in my 50s, I finally just said, 'Whoa. I've got my voice. I have an audience. I have everything to just celebrate.' And the fear just dropped away."

An athlete's physique

Shania works hard to achieve her svelte figure, and sticks to a liquid diet before her shows when on tour.

"I am an athlete, I have to breathe, I have to project. I have to pace everything," she told The Sun"After the show I am ready to chew. I am vegetarian, so I only eat vegetarian proteins, but I will eat whatever. I don't eat like a rabbit."

She explained: "I am happy to have pasta, and I will have a glass of champagne after the show – I like to celebrate."

Self-love

Shania has felt the pressure to remain fit and youthful for years, yet employs one simple trick to boost her confidence.

"I decided that wherever there was a mirror, and I was naked in my house or hotel, that I would keep the lights on and I would look in the mirror. A lot of people, as they start ageing – and even young people – they don't want to look at themselves in the mirror naked, and I think that is such a shame," she said.

"Every month or day that I may notice another sag or another bit of cellulite, I want to know it's there. I want to be okay with it instead of thinking, I have to cover it up or not to look. I can't change it, and I don't plan on changing it superficially."
