Jessica Alba has traded her signature long, caramel-hued locks and soft waves for a fresh new hairstyle just in time for the height of summer.
The actress debuted her shoulder-grazing, blonde locks via an Instagram Reel last week. The video captured her sitting in a salon chair as her hairstylist, Brittney Conkle, transformed her tresses.
Jessica went on to showcase her sleek, silky lob, which skimmed just below her shoulders and featured softly curled-under ends. Subtle dark blonde highlights framed her face, adding warmth and dimension to the fresh new look.
Jessica appears to be embracing her fresh new hairstyle, documenting her latest trip in New York City along the way. In a stunning Instagram post shared on July 24, the actress posed in a chic black dress featuring a plunging neckline, delicate spaghetti straps and a backless silhouette. The elegant design fell just above her ankles and was elevated by a daring thigh-high slit. Her newly lightened, glossy locks provided the perfect contrast against the minimalist ensemble.
"Last weekend in the city," she penned in the caption.
Jessica Alba's hair transformation
The actress's new hairstyle is her shortest look in four years. Jessica is no stranger to switching up her hairstyle. She first embraced a blonde bob in 2022, revealing the fresh look on TikTok, after previously unveiling a shoulder-length chop at the 2019 Baby2Baby Gala.
However, Jessica always had longer hair growing up. "I grew up in a Mexican American family and they really feel like girls' hair should be long," she told Glamour in 2022.
"I actually got a haircut from Chris McMillan, who did the Rachel cut from Friends. And I think it was actually my first official haircut that my mum didn’t give me. My hair was down to my butt and when I came home with the Rachel cut, it was like these really extreme layers," she explained.
"The Rachel" became one of the defining beauty trends of the 90s, celebrated for its choppy layers, voluminous bounce, and signature caramel highlights. Jennifer Aniston's infamous haircut was courtesy of Chris McMillan during her time on the hit series Friends.
Chris previously admitted that at the time he was trying to convince the actress to "try something a bit different" when he cut her locks.
"I first created 'The Rachel' back when I met Jennifer, which was more than 20 years ago," he told The Telegraph. "We have been friends a long time. Back then, Jennifer had really long hair with a fringe."
He continued: "I told her she should grow her fringe out, get some highlights and just try something a bit different. We cut the length and added all in these layers to blend the bottom to the bangs – and the rest is history."
