On the July 30 airing of the popular Today show, viewers once again didn't see Craig Melvin with his usual co-host Savannah Guthrie.

Instead, the anchor introduced the journalist who's filling in for the TV star.

Craig expressed: "Good to be back in Studio 1A, alongside Hallie Jackson, who's on for Savannah while she's on assignment with NBC."

Hallie replied: "Hi friend. We're so glad to have you back. We were thinking of you when we were covering all the extreme weather that you got caught up in across the country."

Craig revealed: "I did. It was hot there in South Carolina for sure, but it's good to be back. Good to have you here with us this morning," and Hallie responded: "Thank you friend, appreciate it."

Aside from Hallie, Sheinelle Jones has also helped fill in for Savannah earlier this week.

Savannah's new gig

During Carson Daly's PopStart segment on July 16, the journalist spoke about what's being worked on, explaining: "A few months back, we announced that Wordle, the game show, is coming to NBC. Savannah, of course, is going to host. Our buddy Jimmy Fallon [is] producing."

Savannah added: "I'm headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks. We're gonna shoot the whole season and we're super excited. We cannot wait for everyone to see it."

She concluded: "It'll probably air, I think, in the new year," and Carson Daly replied: "Oh I can't wait."

The filming is taking place overseas in the United Kingdom and the new game show was brought into fruition by The New York Times, and Jimmy, alongside his production company, Electric Hot Dog.

Jimmy's take on Savannah's participation

Jimmy and Savannah both love the game, therefore they are very enthusiastic about the new show.

In a press release, Jimmy expressed how excited he is to have Savannah as the host, sharing: "I feel very honored to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this show."

He continued: "Savannah has that rare combination of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel instantly welcome. And she obviously knows how to host a show."

Jimmy concluded: "I am SUPER PROUD and HAPPY, and I think we developed a SOLID GAMER for PRIME-time."

About Wordle

Josh Wardle developed Wordle. The game first came out in 2021, and a year later, The New York Times acquired it and helped make it very popular amongst its readers.

The purpose of the game is to get players to solve a five-letter word and they have six chances to do so.

If they're heading in the right direction, the letters turn yellow and if they happen to be correct, and place a letter in the right spot, the letters turn green. The overall goal is to get an entire word to turn green.
