Born to German immigrants Elizabeth Christ and Frederick Trump in 1905, Frederick Christ Trump followed his father into a successful real estate portfolio. His career included several public controversies, including accusations he had been profiteering from affordable housing and that he had refused to rent to black people and Puerto Ricans.
Donald Trump's mother Mary Anne MacLeod had more humble beginnings, arriving in New York from the island of Lewis at just 18 years old. She married Fred six years later and became a US citizen in 1942. Mary passed in 2000 at the age of 88, while Fred died the year before.

She stepped back from the role in 2017 and is reportedly close to her presidential brother. Maryanne is a republican, but President Trump previously stated that the pair "have different views a little bit".
