Miami Vice was a massive phenomenon that took over pop-culture. The police procedural was on air for five years from 1984 to 1989 and helped make Miami a vacation destination for years to come.

Created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann, Miami Vice was "a glamorized and romanticized production" that followed two undercover cops navigating Miami's drug circuit. Keep reading to see what the legendary cast of the '80s hit looks like today.

Don Johnson won a Golden Globe Award for his work in Miami Vice

Don Johnson, 76, was launched into stardom when he starred as undercover cop Sonny Crockett. At 35-years-old, he landed the role on Miami Vice and quickly became a fixture of Hollywood.

After the show wrapped in 1989, Don went on to have a successful career. He starred in another cop drama, Nash Bridges, for several years before appearing in critically loved films Django Unchained and Knives Out. Most recently, Don starred in Doctor Odyssey alongside Joshua Jackson.

Don Johnson's personal life

Outside of acting, Don has had a very active romantic life. He's been married five times to four different women, including actress, including actress Melanie Griffith. Don and Melanie first married in 1976, before divorcing shortly after, remarrying in 1989, and divorcing for a final time in 1996.

The actor is a proud father of five children, including actress Dakota Johnson, who he shares with Melanie. These days, Don is married to socialite Kelley Phleger and splits his time between acting and his family. "Sometimes I often prefer the supporting role because I still get joy out of what I do, but I don't want to work those long hours and be away from my family," he told People in 2024.

Philip Michael Thomas, 77, starred as Sonny Crockett's partner, Ricardo Tubbs. And he earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. While he was a fan favorite in Miami Vice, Philip stepped out of the spotlight a few years after it wrapped.

The actor last appeared on screen in the 2003 thriller Fate and voice acted in the 2006 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Currently, he's focusing on independent music production as CEO of Spaceship Records. In 2025, he published the 25th Anniversary edition of Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker Colouring Book with music and lyrics.

One of Philip's children starred on the Bravo reality show Love Without Borders

Philip Michael Thomas's road to fatherhood

In 1986, Philip married model and singer Kassandra Green. The two welcomed five children – Sacred, Imaj, Sovereign, Kharisma, and Noble – before divorcing in 1998. Aside from the kids he shares with Kassandra, Phillip reportedly has six other children with four different women.

Edward was on Battlestar Galactica for five years

Edward James Olmos

Edward James Olmos, 79, won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Detective Marty Castillo in Miami Vice. In a September 2025 interview with the Miami Herald, the actor reflected on how he cultivated the character's attitude, saying: "I never smiled, I refused to look at them when I talked. It was nuts. But it worked! It really brought tension to the structure of the show. Off set, we were fine."

Since his days on Miami Vice, Edward has become an extremely recognizable face. He starred alongside Harrison Ford in Blade Runner, Jennifer Lopez in Selena, and even earned an Oscar nomination for his role in the 1988 film Stand and Deliver.

Saundra has also made guest appearances on shows like The Sopranos, Damages, and True Detective.

The 69-year-old actress starred as Gina Calabrese in Miami Vice. The detective had a brief love affair with Sonny Crockett and was Saundra Santiago's defining role "My character was more than a Latina cop. She was a real human being who wanted to catch bad guys," she said of her role in 2024, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "We always had to pull out our guns… So, we got trained in how to use them. Cops on the set would guide us through."

Saundra went on to star on soap operas like Guiding Light and One Life to Live. In her personal life, she has been married to musician Roger Squitero since 1999.

Almost 40 years after Miami Vice wrapped, Olivia lives a private life

Olivia Brown, 66, played Detective Trudy Joplin in the '80s show. After the show wrapped, she appeared in several TV shows and films, like 7th Heaven, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Moesha.

The actress was briefly married to actor Mykelti Williamson, but she's spent most of her life with husband James Okonkwo. Olivia and James are parents to two children.
