Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos often open up about their family life on Live, and aren't afraid to hold things back! The relatable co-stars and real life couple recently reflected on a panic-inducing moment they had as first-time parents when their oldest son Michael - now 29 - was a baby.
In the footage above, the pair recalled going to dinner with Michael. While they were sitting at the table, he picked up a piece of chewing gum from under the table and swallowed it.
Kelly and Mark panicked and rushed him to the doctor's, telling the restaurant staff that they would come back later to pay. "We carried him to Doctor Mark," Kelly said. "We were running down the street. We're like, 'We will be back to pay the bill in a minute!' He's fine, but can you imagine - first baby." The All My Children alum then joked that "by the third baby, we were letting him eat all the gum." "Yeah, who cares, right off the ground," Mark added laughing.
This isn't the first time the doting parents have spoken about Michael's position as oldest child in the family. In August 2025, they reminisced on Live about the tooth fairy, and how their firstborn had a knack for benefiting from the financial side of losing his teeth.
As the oldest of their children, Michael was the first to experience the tooth fairy, and soon realized the benefits! "Do you remember when Michael realized he was getting money, he lost like four or five teeth in a week," Mark began. "Yes, I believe he was just extracting teeth. Because you know, Michael's the first grandchild, the first kid to grow teeth, the first kid to lose teeth," Kelly said. She then let out a huge sigh, as the audience laughed.
© Photo: InstagramKelly and Mark are also parents to daughter Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23, and raised their children in New York City. All three of their children have followed in their footsteps in the entertainment industry: Michael and Joaquin work as actors, while Lola is a talented singer.
Despite their privileged upbringing, Kelly and Mark's children are all incredibly down-to-earth. During a chat with Daily Mail about raising her children, Kelly said of their upbringing: "We want to raise productive people who are thoughtful and selfless." The star added: "I wanted to raise good, caring, generous, thoughtful people who are professional, who are polite, who don't expect the world handed to them."
© Photo: InstagramThat's not to say Kelly and Mark don't want to help their children when they can. Back in 2022, they gave son Michael an exciting opportunity when he worked on the Lifetime movie, Let's Get Physical, which was backed by their production company, Milojo Productions.
The aspiring actor told People at the time: "I read the script and I really, really enjoyed the character. I thought he was really funny. Also, you know, it was offered to me – and when you are starting out, when something is offered, you take it. It was kind of a no-brainer for me."
