"The first year of marriage was really tough because there was a lot going back to the trauma. There was just a lack of trust," the singer previously told GQ of their love story.

"There was all these things that you don't want to admit to the person that you're with, because it's scary. You don't want to scare them off by saying, 'I'm scared.'"

"I just felt like that was my calling. Just to get married and have babies and do that whole thing," he added about their decision to tie the knot in 2018.

"We're just creating these moments for us as a couple, as a family, that we're building these memories. And it's beautiful that we have that to look forward to. Before, I didn't have that to look forward to in my life. I didn't have a significant other. I didn't have someone to love. I didn't have someone to pour into."

Hailey opened up about the impact of the constant rumors surrounding their marriage, particularly after she gave birth to their son. "Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I've ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult," she told Vogue.

"And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, 'They're getting divorced,' and 'They're this,' and 'They're not happy': It is such a [expletive]. I cannot even begin to explain it. It's a crazy life to live."

Thankfully, Justin was able to help the Rhode founder drown out the noise and put things into perspective. "He's been doing this literally since he was a child, and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know," she explained.

"He was like, 'Baby, trust me, I've been here before many, many times. You're not going to win. There is no winning.'"
