Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester
Born in 1901, Alice Douglas Scott became Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, as the wife of Prince Henry, the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. She welcomed two children during their marriage, Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and remains the longest-living British royal to date.
Princess Alice passed away on 29 October 2004 at the age of 102, beating the Queen Mother's previous record. She stepped back from royal engagements just four years prior to her death, retiring from duty in 1998.
Queen Elizabeth II
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, born on 21 April 1926 became Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953. She wed Philip Mountbatten, later Prince Philip, on 20 November 1947 and they welcomed four children together.
The Queen sadly passed on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, reaching the remarkable age of 96.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
The late Queen's husband Philip Mountbatten was born on 10 June 1921 in Corfu, Greece. The Duke of Edinburgh was born to Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
He died a year before the late Queen, retiring from public duties in 2017 and passing away four years later on 9 April 2021 at the age of 99.
Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone
The granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, was born in 1883. She married Queen Mary's brother, Prince Alexander of Teck in 1904, walked down the aisle by her uncle King Edward VII.
She passed away in 1981, making it to the admirable age of 97 and was buried beside her husband and son on 8 January 1981 at the Royal Burial Ground in Frogmore.
Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother
Born Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon on 4 August 1900, the Queen Mother served alongside her husband King George VI between 11 December 1936 and 6 February 1952.
She was mother to the late Queen Elizabeth II and her younger sister Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. The Queen Mother passed on 30 March 2002 at the age of 101.
Slow and steady habit
The Queen Mother wasn't afraid to indulge and had a regular daily drinking routine, starting with a glass of Dubonnet and gin before lunch. Wine then accompanied her afternoon meal.
Later in the day, Major Colin Burgess stirred up a martini before dinner and Veuve Clicquot champagne was poured as the tipple of choice to pair with dinner.
