Sophia Bush's complex dating history: From Chad Michael Murray divorce to new marriage to wife

Chad and Sophia met on the set of One Tree Hill in 2003 and tied the knot in Santa Monica, California, on April 16, 2005. However, the marriage was short lived as the couple announced their split five months later. The divorce was finalized in December 2006.

The former couple were forced to continue to work with one another on the show until 2009. "We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place," Sophia said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2014. "To all the other costars who've worked it out, more power to you."

In 2018, Sophia admitted that the marriage was "not a thing I actually really wanted to do." Chad reacted by calling her claims "ludicrous" and that he "would never marry for any reason but love."

The Stay Alive co-stars were speculated to be dating from 2006 to 2008. In June 2008, she told Us Weekly that they split up "a year ago," but remained "really good friends." 

"You can love somebody, and not be in love with them, and I think that was a really valuable lesson. We weren’t ready to get married, but it definitely doesn’t mean we don’t care about each other," she shared.

Sophia found more than one love on One Tree Hill. She also dated her co-star Jamed Lafferty in 2008. Chad broke his silence on the matter during an interview. "It's one of those things where you grow up a lot faster. You're put in a situation where you're gonna deal with things right in your face. But I think [Sophia and I] are both professional and mature enough to get through it," he said. "And now it's just easy. We're just friends. And she's got James, and James and I are friends. It's just a little tight group in Wilmington."

Sophia has an on-and-off romance with One Tree Hill star Austin Nicholas. "We've been dating off and on for the past four years. We had so many years of history prior to him coming to work on the show," she told E! News in 2010. "And I think someone taking a job and moving their life across the country to show you how much they care is pretty much the most romantic gesture that a person could make."

However, the pair officially parted ways in February 2012.

Sophia and Jesse Lee Soffer began their relationship on the set of Chicago P.D. in 2014. However, they called time on their romance only a year later in June 2015.

Sophia switched things up from dating an actor when she began her relationship with  entrepreneur Grant Hughes in 2020. The couple enjoyed a whirlwind romance and got married at Philbrook Art Museum in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, on June 11, 2022.

However, the couple divorced 13 months later in August 2023.

Sophia and Ashlyn began dating in October 2023 and confirmed their romance in April 2024. At the same time, Sophia came out as queer. In September 2026, they confirmed their marriage, which had taken place a year earlier.
