Kate Hudson celebrated her daughter Rani Rose's eighth birthday with a collection of family photographs and videos, revealing just how much her youngest child resembles her.
The actress, 47, shared the Instagram tribute to mark Rani's birthday on October 2, including footage of the pair baking together and a smiling photograph with Rani's father, Danny Fujikawa.
With her long hair framing her face and a smile reminiscent of her famous mother's, Rani looked every inch Kate's mini-me as she nestled beside her parents.
Another moment showed the mother and daughter standing beside a kitchen mixer, with bowls and ingredients spread across the counter. Kate wore a colourful patterned robe while Rani helped with the baking.
Kate's birthday message to Rani
Alongside the montage, Kate shared an affectionate message celebrating her daughter's interests. "Our birthday girl! Rani Rose, our baby, is 8!" she wrote.
"Our little dancing, avid reading, skincare obsessed, horse loving, harry potter die hard, cuddle bug, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!"
The post quickly attracted birthday wishes from the actress's famous friends. "She's too cute!" wrote Amanda Kloots, while Hilary Swank added: "Happy Birthday, Rani Rose!!!"
Sara Foster called the birthday girl "Rani Angel", and Liv Tyler responded with a string of pink heart emojis.
The video offered a glimpse of the everyday moments Kate enjoys with her youngest child, from time in the kitchen to cuddling up for family photographs.
The family meaning behind Rani's name
Kate welcomed Rani with musician Danny in October 2018. The couple announced their engagement in September 2021. Their daughter's name carries a special connection to Danny's family. Rani, pronounced Ronnie, was named after her paternal grandfather, Ron Fujikawa.
Explaining the decision in her Instagram birth announcement, Kate wrote: "Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor."
Rani is Kate's youngest child and only daughter. The Running Point actress also shares son Ryder, 22, with her former husband, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, and son Bingham, 15, with her former fiancé, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
What Kate has said about parenting
Kate has been candid about getting things wrong as a mother and recognising when she needs to apologise to her children. Speaking on Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce in March 2025, she recalled a disagreement with her younger son, Bingham: "I became combative with my 13-year-old … where is that gonna go?"
She also spoke about learning to give her children independence as they grow older. "The only other thing I would say to all moms is let your kids go," she said. "Don't hold on. Don't expect anything of them," she continued. "Yeah, let them go enjoy their life. Let them be for a bit."
Growing up in a close-knit family
Rani is also part of the extended family Kate shares with her mother, Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell, who helped raise Kate and her brother Oliver. Family traditions remain important across the generations, particularly during their Christmas gatherings in Aspen. Speaking previously to HELLO!, Oliver explained: "We're very traditional in the sense that we read The Night Before Christmas."
