Kelly Clarkson has called out a New York store after claiming she was treated like Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman during an uncomfortable shopping experience.

The 44-year-old singer was left furious after making a special trip to a boutique in Brooklyn, only to allegedly be made to feel as though she couldn't afford the merchandise.

Taking to X on Saturday, October 10, the former American Idol winner didn't hold back as she recounted the incident to her 8.8 million followers.

"Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy," Kelly began.

The mother of two claimed an employee had looked at her as though she couldn't afford the items she was interested in purchasing, before offering to find her something "comparable" instead.

Clearly unimpressed, Kelly fired back: "Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale."

The 'Since U Been Gone' hitmaker went on to name the establishment, Art of Play, sarcastically suggesting that her followers should visit if they wanted to experience similar treatment.

She compared the encounter to Julia Roberts' character Vivian Ward in the beloved 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, in which a Beverly Hills saleswoman refuses to serve Vivian because of her appearance.

In one of the movie's most memorable scenes, Vivian later returns to the upscale boutique dressed in designer clothes and carrying expensive shopping bags, famously telling the saleswoman: "Big mistake. Big. Huge."

Kelly's experience immediately struck a chord with her followers, many of whom couldn't believe the Grammy-winning superstar had been treated so dismissively.

"You mean to tell me the guy in the store didn't know who Kelly Clarkson is?!" one incredulous fan wrote.

Another commented: "If I was a salesperson and saw you come in the store, I would roll out 'the red carpet' treatment."

Others praised Kelly for speaking publicly about the encounter, while some reportedly left negative reviews on the store's Google listing.

The incident comes during a period of significant change for the singer, who relocated from Los Angeles to New York City with her two children, River Rose, 12, and Remington Alexander, 10, in 2023.

Earlier this year, Kelly announced that she was stepping away from her long-running daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, after seven seasons.

The decision came following the death of her former husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died of cancer in August 2025.

Kelly explained that she wanted to prioritize spending time with her children following the loss of their father. Despite leaving her talk show behind, the three-time Grammy winner hasn't disappeared from television entirely.

She is currently appearing as a coach on the 30th season of The Voice, alongside Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
