Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' adorable new member of the family hasn't come home just yet.

Kelly, 56, and Mark, 55, announced the previous week on their show LIVE with Kelly and Mark that they'd officially adopted a new puppy named Javi.

They made the decision after meeting him during the show's annual Adopt A Dog segment, a Shih Tzu mix pup and one just like their other dog, Lena, a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix herself.

Why Kelly and Mark's new dog isn't home yet

However, Javi, who was originally named Lucas, isn't home yet. "We don't have him yet because he had a little bit of [a] health issue," Kelly explained to People at the Broadway opening night for Other Desert Cities over the weekend.

Mark confirmed that it was a "parasite," adding: "So they're treating it and then he's going to come," noting that Javi is set to come home "any day now."

Kelly and Mark's new "baby"

Earlier on LIVE, the couple announced that they had a new "baby" on his way home in Javi. "We have news! We adopted Javi yesterday," the Riverdale alum shared during the opening of the show. "We have a new baby!"

"We are like expectant parents," Kelly joked, confirming then that their new pup was still undergoing some routine testing. "I started nesting last night. I couldn't sleep. I started making a nest."

The Hope & Faith star also recalled having Javi do a chemistry test with their dog Lena, and noted that while Lena was scared at first, their "meet cute" was ultimately a success. "They wound up playing next to each other. I think we're going to have to do slow exposure, slow. But I think they're going to be A-okay."

How their new pup reminds them of their late dog Chewie

Kelly also spoke of how much Javi was a reminder of their late dog Chewie, who'd passed away in February 2025. "I kept thinking about how much Javi reminded me of Chewie. And I was thinking, 'Oh, I bet Chewie sent Javi here for us,'" she mused. "My beloved dog, who I will never get over and mourn for the rest of my life, sent this little dog here."

"Because I really, I decided I was only going to get a dog, and I didn't really care about the breed, but I wanted a dog that looked exactly like Lena," Kelly continued. "Just a small little black dog. That's what I was in the market for. And then you brought this Chewie-like dog, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh!'"

Later in the episode, Kelly asked her husband whether he was still excited, noting that he was initially more pumped and now she's "doing that thing that I do." Mark quipped: "It's not a contest. It could be equal. It's not a contest."

"I know. I'm not making it a contest. I'm just saying that I now can't stop thinking about the dog, and you are able to think about other things," Kelly responded, to which Mark added: "I'm a man. I compartmentalize. I'm very excited. I'm very, very excited. But right now I'm just doing the show. Does that make sense?"
