Over the course of her national political career, Kristi Noem has become one of the most recognizable women of the Trump administration, and one who has adopted the Mar-A-Lago aesthetic placing an emphasis on long hair, heavy make-up, and a hyper-polished style.

But Kristi, 54, wasn't always known for the look that many consider a status symbol of elite belonging and political alignment.

In fact, for many years, she looked the part of a rancher from South Dakota and a working mom of four.

In 2010, Kristi first arrived on Capitol Hill as South Dakota’s sole representative in the U.S. House, and her image reflected the heartland roots. During the campaign she was often pictured in jeans and plaid shirts, with her dark brunette hair in a feathered, short brown shag that was popular among women at the time.

In the first few months in DC, she exchanged the neighborly look for classic skirts and blazers, projecting a disciplined, policy-focused persona that female politicians strove for at the time, keeping the focus on their political work and away from fashion and beauty.

Over the next few years, Kristi would grow out her hair, and makeup began to take center stage thanks to heavy bronzer and contouring.

Once a proponent of sartorially conservative looks, Kristi began to embrace drama, including in her styling, bringing in bold colors to help her stand out in a crowd.

Kristi's style began to evolve

2017

By 2017, with President Trump in power, Kristi was playing a key role in major legislative efforts such as the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Her visual style was also evolving, with sleek, tailored blazers and longer, shoulder-length hair.

Kristi won the South Dakota governorship in 2018, and became a close collaborator with the President.

As her politics veered further to the right, so too did her style as she began to align with what has become known as Mar-A-Lago "face" – pronounced makeup, and even physical tweaks via cosmetic surgery – favored by many women in the greater MAGA movement.

Kristi has never revealed which, if any, enhancements she may have had, but she has undergone a complete dental makeover, swapping her natural smile, which was damaged as a child in a biking accident, for bright, uniform veneers.

Her closet also shifted towards structured silhouettes and bold jewel tones.

As Trump regained power in 2024, Kristi was named Secretary of Homeland Security, and she spearheaded the controversial 2025 ICE raids; as of writing 70 representatives had signaled their support for Kristi to be impeached over three allegations surrounding the ongoing campaign by ICE.

During this time, her look became a masterclass in dark power tailoring and heavy makeup, fake tan, and unmissable false lashes.

Kristi has marked a full transformation

2026

After Trump removed Kristi from DHS, she was appointed as Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas; the six-month contract expired in September 2026.

At a meeting of the multinational political and security coalition "Shield of the Americas that same month, Kristi – who is a grandmother to four – unveiled a new honey-blonde hairstyle and a full face of make-up, marking the complete 180 from her early years in DC and matching her status as a MAGA acolyte.
