Trisha Yearwood's recent red carpet appearance sent fans into a frenzy when she appeared at the Best Friends Animal Society Gala in New York City, looking better than ever at 62. The award-winning singer has undergone an incredible transformation over the years, navigating the ups and downs of her weight loss journey and remaining candid through it all.
Trisha has also been open about the challenges she has faced, from emotional eating after the loss of her mother to finding a healthy balance through her diet and exercise regimen.
Join HELLO! as we look back at Trisha's transformation over the decades, from her breakout '90s success to her glamorous red carpet looks today.
She continued to dominate the country music scene in the '90s and began to solidify her classic style with structured silhouettes and glamorous pieces.
Trisha shared that her husband, country superstar Garth Brooks, has been nothing but supportive of her health journey since the beginning.
"He never made me feel bad about my weight," she told Good Housekeeping. "He always told me I was beautiful. He says, 'I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. I love you at this weight, and the only other weight I love you at is whatever weight you are.'"
The singer dipped her toes in the cooking world with her own cookbook, Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen, published in 2008. She went on to launch her own cooking show, Trisha's Southern Kitchen, in 2012.
"This is not how you eat every day. This is when you want to indulge," she told CBS Newsabout her recipes.
"If you're going to have macaroni and cheese, don't have it every day. Have it for a special occasion. And then eat better most of the time. I think sort of the new South lives that way."
In 2011, Trisha sadly lost her mother, which led to a bout of emotional eating. "My mom passed away from breast cancer in October of 2011. I lived with her for a couple of months during that time. And I ate," she told CBS News.
"That was my coping mechanism, you know? I just ate. And for that whole year, I just didn't care." Eventually, Trisha grew "tired of feeling tired" and "something just clicked", kickstarting her fitness journey.
Trisha shared insight into her dieting journey with People in 2013, telling the publication that she had shed 30 lbs.
"I don't think you can name one diet I haven't done. I'm that girl who buys every magazine where somebody's lost 30 lbs. I guess a part of me didn't want to hear that it's just really hard work!"
The blonde beauty added that she was able to lose weight by following a "low-fat, low sugar" diet "90 percent" of the time, combined with workouts like Zumba classes.
The Georgia native explained to Parade magazine that her weight had fluctuated throughout her life, and she had learned to accept the process.
"I think I'm like every woman who struggles with her weight. I have ups and downs, and sometimes I'm 'in the zone', and sometimes I am 'off the wagon!'" she said.
"I wish there was a quick fix, but the truth is what none of us really want to hear. It's about eating less and moving more, and it takes time. It takes a lot less time to gain it than it does to lose it."
The star has always been open about her weight loss journey, and shared that a trip to Haiti for Habitat for Humanity completely shifted her perspective.
"I really felt my weight on that trip. I'd put a few extra pounds on top of the 20 extra that I always carried. I didn't feel great," she explained to Good Housekeeping.
"I had just come back from a place where people don't know where their next meal is coming from, and I was bitching because I was a size 14 – poor, pitiful me."
"I realized I was tired of losing the same few pounds, tired of complaining about it. I felt, 'Just do it, or shut up about it,'" she concluded.
The Grammy winner's most recent red carpet appearance stunned fans thanks to her slimmed-down look for the Best Friends Animal Society Gala, where she rocked a tailored navy suit over a white button-up shirt.
"Girl. That suit and hair," one fan exclaimed on Instagram, while another added: "You look wonderful, Trisha!" and a third chimed in: "Daaaang Yearwood!"
