Happy birthday to Ryan Reynolds! And the newly minted 50-year-old looks just like he did in high school.
Ryan, who is married to actress Blake Lively, turned 50 on Friday, October 23 and doesn't look like he's half a century old. The Deadpool actor has barely aged a day. Just look at his high school photo below!
He was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, and began acting at just 13, but he still lived a normal life. The actor attended Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver with fellow actor Joshua Jackson. Ryan still has a good connection with his school and even gave a a commencement speech for the 2020 graduating class.
"You have a teacher by the name of Jonah Eckert, and he was a friend of mine when I was in high school," he recalled in the speech. "I have not seen Jonah in 1.2 million years, but in my mind's eye, he's still like a 17-year-old kid. His hair has frosted tips, he always wore shorts, I remember, even if it was minus 20."
After graduating in 1994, Ryan enrolled at Kwantlen Polytechnic University briefly before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting. And that happened to be a good decision!
At 50, Ryan has won two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Critics' Choice Award, and a People's Icon Award. He's worth some $350 million, owns a professional soccer team, and is a father of four!
Ryan Reynolds's sarcastic birthdays
The actor is no stranger to a sarcastic birthday message. He and Blake often swap hilarious birthday wishes. In 2016, Ryan wrote to X, formerly Twitter: "Just want to wish Billy Ray Cyrus the most special, magical birthday ever. I love you with all my heart. Also, Happy Birthday to my wife."
A year later, Blake got back at him by posting a photo of Ryan Gosling and Ryan to X. But, she conveniently cropped out her husband, writing: "Happy birthday, baby."
While Blake hasn't shared a birthday message for Ryan's 50th yet, his other famous partner chimed in. Ryan's friend and co-owner of Wrexham A.F.C. Rob McElhenney posted a video to Instagram.
"Usually we go funny for birthdays. But 50 is serious. I love you," Rob wrote to the sweet video. In it, the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor said: "Canadian farmer, Nelson Henderson said: 'The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.' When I think about Ryan, I think about how much of his life has been spent doing exactly that. In every industry he's touched, he's left something better than he found it – funnier, more human, more meaningful, and somehow, more Ryan."
"I think his greatest impact isn't just the things he's made, it's the things that he's helped grow, the communities he's been a part of, the people he's inspired. Wrexham is one example, but it's really just a collection of something Ryan has been doing his whole life – planting seeds and helping build something that will outlast any one of us," Rob continued.
"So, for Ryan's 50th birthday, I wanted to give him something that will keep growing long after the birthday candles have been blown out. 50 oak trees planted across the world in Los Angeles, New York, Canada, and Wales."
Fans adored the post, with one writing: "You are a beautiful person, brother. Also – I expect something hilarious for his 51st. No pressure."
