Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford dazzled as she stepped out at the Sunrise on the Reaping premiere in Los Angeles with her son, Hermès Giersch, in a rare joint appearance for the mother-son duo.
The 57-year-old looked incredible in a two-piece metallic silver outfit featuring puffed sleeves and a flowing midi skirt. She completed the look with matching strappy heels and a metallic silver handbag, and wore her blonde locks back in a chic bun. Hermès looked dapper in a green turtleneck sweater, black trousers and a checkered coat, and he slicked his hair back off his forehead.
Kelly Rutherford's custody battle
Their appearance comes after Kelly spent several years locked in a custody battle with Hermès' father, Daniel Giersch, which led to Hermès and his sister, Helena, living with him in Monaco.
Kelly married the German businessman in 2006, and they split in 2008 before finalizing their divorce two years later. Initially, they agreed on shared custody of Hermès and Helena, but in 2015, Daniel was granted full custody after the actress failed to put her kids on a flight to Monaco following a visit to the US.
"Yes, it was a challenging time. It was a heartbreaking time. But I focus on the good most of the time, I really do," she told People in 2024.
"I'm very thankful of where we are. I have a great relationship with my kids. We were never completely separated."
Kelly Rutherford's bond with her kids
Kelly relocated to Monaco to live near her children, and has rebuilt their strong bond over time. "I think you've got to keep love in your heart," she told the publication. "I mean, a lot of people haven't gone through what I've gone through, but they still have challenging relationships with their kids."
"But at the same time, you heal, you grow," she continued. "You look at the lessons that came from it. You look at how your kids have grown up, and how they're doing so well, and you're thankful for that."
She added that it was important to "surrender" to the ebbs and flows of life and to remember that "it eventually does get better".
"My kids are getting older, and they're sort of like, 'Okay, get on with your life,'" Kelly laughed. "They're teenagers now, and they've got their friends and their stuff. So my day-to-day has recently been more about me and my dogs, working and traveling."
Letting her children grow
The blonde beauty explained that she needed to take a step back and let her children grow as they navigated their teenage years.
"Being there for my children... when they have time for me. They still need you when they're teens, but it's different. I think you just have to be there for them when they do need you. It's natural for them to grow up and have their lives. It's a change, but it's a beautiful change." Kelly is best known for her roles in Generations, Melrose Place and Gossip Girl.
