Halle Berry's 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, has broken her silence after claims were made against her mother by the actress's ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Olivier accused Halle of abusing their son, Maceo, during an alleged argument on September 26, and claimed that she had choked him. He also alleged that she had made racially charged remarks towards Maceo in the past.
Nahla speaks out
Nahla, who lives out of home and attends college, jumped to her mother's defense in a declaration filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, which was obtained by Page Six.
Nahla, the daughter of Halle and her ex, Gabriel Aubry, called her mother a "loving and devoted parent" who "can be strict when necessary" but is devoted to her kids.
"I have never seen my mom hit, slap, choke, grab, or physically abuse Maceo in any way," she wrote in the declaration. "I have never seen my mom place her hands around Maceo's neck, put him in a chokehold, restrict his breathing, or engage in any conduct remotely resembling the allegations that have been made against her."
Nahla explained that Halle "always made time for me and prioritized what was important to me," and did the same for her 13-year-old brother. "She attended his games, drove him to practices and tournaments and advocated for his education. She celebrates our successes, supports us through challenges and is always there when we need her."
Addressing the allegations
The college student went on to address the allegations made against her mother, which made her "shocked, very sad and very upset". She said in the declaration that she was "heartbroken" for Maceo, whom she revealed was "funny, smart and full of personality".
As for Olivier's claims of racially charged comments made towards Maceo by his mother, Nahla declared that she had never heard anything of the sort from Halle.
"My mom is biracial, I am biracial, and Maceo is biracial. Throughout my life, my mom taught both of us to embrace who we are, appreciate our differences and respect people from all backgrounds," she said. Nahla concluded by describing her last call with Maceo on September 29, where he "sounded happy for me and didn't seem upset about anything".
"I want very much to speak with my brother and check on him. I want him to know that I love him," she finished.
Halle's response
Just days after Olivier's explosive claims, Halle was seen with her son and her fiancé, Van Hunt, at Sky Zone Trampoline Park in LA, where they enjoyed an afternoon together. Olivier requested sole custody of Maceo and was granted a temporary restraining order against Halle, though the judge has allowed contact to continue between the mother and son.
Olivier and Halle were married between 2013 and 2015, and remained locked in a contentious custody battle for several years before settling their divorce in August 2023.
The Oscar winner responded to Olivier's allegations in a statement made by her attorney, Marina Beck, to HELLO! "To say this filing is entirely meritless and deliberately misleading would be an understatement," Marina began.
"There is voluminous evidence, including numerous judicial rulings, that Olivier Martinez repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry's minor son Maceo – misconduct for which Mr Martinez has already been legally sanctioned."
"In a way, today's filing is not entirely unexpected from an individual with a well-documented history of erratic, possessive and violent behavior," she continued.
"Fortunately, Halle is used to this kind of outrageous conduct from Mr Martinez and, while she is deeply saddened, she will not allow it to deter her from fighting for Maceo's best interests and providing him with the love and support he needs."
