The holiday season is a time for families and loved ones to come together. And the Belgian royals have being doing just that, meeting up for the traditional Christmas concert at the royal palace in Brussels.

Crown Princess Mathilde, who arrived with her husband Crown Prince Philippe, wore an oriental-style burgundy number for the event, while her sister-in-law Princess Claire was likewise looking radiant in an elegant black ensemble with a striking necklace. Also joining in the festive celebration in the spectacular chandeliered hall was Philippe's aunt Queen Fabiola, and her sister-in-law, the current queen, Paola.

The future king will presumably be looking forward to sharing the holiday celebrations with his children, three-year-old Elizabeth and baby Gabriel. And the youngsters may have already received some festive goodies, because it is traditional in Belgium to give gifts on December 6 as well as Christmas Day.

According to local custom, St Nicholas pays two visits to each household at the beginning of the month. His first trip down the chimney comes on the fourth, when he finds out which children have been naughty and nice, and he returns two days later to deliver the presents. Should Santa decide someone has been bad, however, they receive nothing more than a twig.
