It's been a hectic week for Europe's royal families, with both heads of state and their loved ones getting out and about for a variety of official functions. Leading figures from the houses of Spain, Luxembourg and Norway have all been donning their finest and putting their best foot forward as royal duty called.
In Madrid King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were playing host to former US president Bill Clinton at their official residence. Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Letizia, who is expecting their first child in November, also went along for lunch with the politician on Tuesday.
The crown princess obviously isn't letting her pregnancy slow her down, though, as she and her husband made the journey to Barcelona later that day to visit their new niece. Little Irene, who is ninth in line to the throne, was born to the Infanta Cristina at the city's Teknon Clinic on Sunday.
In the cooler climes of Norway, meanwhile, Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit joined King Harald and Queen Sonja to celebrate 100 years of independence. The family made a colourful impression in Oslo's Parliament buildings by adopting full ceremonial costume for the event.
Luxembourg's monarch was dressed in rather less eye-catching attire when he made a trip to Trier in Germany but that didn't stop large crowds of well-wishers turning out to greet him. Grand Duke Henri and Duchess Maria Teresa made a one-day visit to the pictures forward as royal duty called.
