TOP ROYALS JET IN FOR SVERRE MAGNUS BAPTISM

6 MARCH 2006

Norway's little Prince Sverre Magnus proved his parents Haakon and Mette-Marit weren't the only ones capable drawing a crowd when he was christened at the weekend. Leading royals from all over Europe jetted into Oslo to watch Queen Sonja carry her grandson to the altar of the royal palace on Saturday afternoon.

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were both among the VIPs in attendance for the ceremony, along with Sweden's future queen, Crown Princess Victoria, and Prince Pavlos of Greece.

The three-month-old infant at the centre of everyone's attention didn't seem too impressed by all the fuss, as he cried through most of the proceedings. But Norway's royal fans were glad to see the baby, who was dressed in a christening gown made by his great grandmother Princess Ingeborg in 1920, in good health.

Last month the third-in-line was twice admitted to hospital. Doctors gave him the green light to go home after treating him for gastric flu, but just a few days later he once again required medical attention, this time for a respiratory infection. Sverre Magnus was obvious fighting fit when Bishop Kvarme poured a trickle of cold water over his head at the weekend, however.
