The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's newly-released wedding photos to mark their eighth anniversary have sparked a flurry of excitement among royal fans, as many reminisce about their 19 May 2018 nuptials.
Seventeen years before Harry and Meghan walked down the aisle at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, another royal couple wed on the same date.
To mark 25 years since they wed, the younger brother of Dutch King Willem-Alexander, Prince Constantijn, and his wife, Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, also took to Instagram to share throwback photos. The caption read: "This year Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien have been married for 25 years! Today, 25 years ago, the church blessing took place in the Grote or St. Jacobskerk in The Hague."
The newlyweds were pictured kneeling at the altar and sharing their first kiss as husband and wife before posing for family photos.
Wedding dress similarities
Not only do they share the same anniversary, but royal brides Laurentien and Meghan chose remarkably similar wedding dresses, designed by Edouard Vermeulen of NATAN and Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, respectively. Both featured a bateau neckline, a fitted waist, a column skirt and cropped sleeves, opting for a minimalistic bridal look that steered clear of embroidery or embellishments.
The key differences between them were Laurentien's bell sleeves and V-shaped back. She accessorised with the Laurel Wreath Tiara, which had been given to Princess Beatrix on her 18th Birthday in 1956, and a veil with a 12-foot train.
Meanwhile, former Suits actress Meghan wore the Queen Mary Bandeau tiara loaned to her by the late Queen Elizabeth, alongside a 16-foot veil, which took 4,000 hours of work to complete.
"[She] felt like she was bringing an element of each of those countries down the aisle with her. So that her new role – and that bridge to the new role – was captured in what she was wearing," Keller told Vanity Fair.
"For both of us, we felt it was a really beautiful signature, and I think even Prince Harry was just thrilled at the idea that we really tried to capture something for everyone in that service."
Netherlands wedding
Prince Constantijn and his wife Princess Laurentien's celebrations began a few days before their religious blessing.
Grasping the opportunity to be creative with her bridal looks, Laurentien wore another two looks by NATAN. Her first was an unconventional pink coat for the civil ceremony on 17 May, alongside a sparkly choker. As she celebrated at a gala dinner the following evening, the royal bride chose a red halter-neck gown.
