Meet Anna Ewers: the girl who beat Kendall and Gigi to model of year title

Who would have predicted that both Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid would have lost out on being crowned Model of the Year? The Victoria's Secret angels missed their chance to hold the prestigious title when underdog Anna Ewers scooped the award.

Anna Ewers won Model of the Year

The 22-year-old beat frontrunners Kendall and Gigi when industry experts, including stylists, photographers and editors, named Anna as their top model. In announcing the winner of Model of the Year, stated Anna was: "The singular face that defined the year as a whole with ubiquitous industry demand and presence."

The win came as quite a surprise with the German-born star's two competitors having had a fantastic year in the fashion world. The BFFs debuted together at the Victoria's Secret fashion show, walked high-profile runways and dominated social media.

BBFs Kendall and Gigi missed out on the title

Although she missed out on the desirable title, Gigi was the runner-up and was also named as social media star of the year. The blonde bombshell has 10.4 million Instagram followers compared to Kendall's impressive fan base of 44.3 million, but it seems her presence was more felt, which could be due to her budding romance with Zayn Malik.

Anna is not the only model in her family. Her sister Bella, 18, is just as photogenic as her and was even named Breakout Star in the public vote, leaving fans to speculate whether she may rise up to be just as sucessful as Anna.

Anna was discovered by Alexander Wang

The 5'7" beauty was discovered by designer Alexander Wang who saw her photo on a blog. She has appeared on the cover of international editions of Vogue nine times, four of which were from this year.

While she may not be as well known as her rivals, she's fronted a number of prestigious campaigns in 2015 including Chanel and Alexander Wang.
