The world's biggest stars were out in force for the Met Gala, but there was one person who was noticeably absent – Sarah Jessica Parker. The Sex and the City star has been a guest at the event, which is dubbed "the biggest night in fashion", for the past few years but reportedly decided to skip it this year to focus on her work.
The actress made no reference to the event on social media, prompting fans to question why she hadn't attended this year. "I was so looking forward to seeing you at the Ball! Not the same without you…" one commented. Another added: "Where were you at the Met? Your outfit slays every year."
Sarah Jessica Parker was noticeably absent from the 2017 Met Gala
Monday's gala, which had the theme of 'Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between', would have marked Sarah Jessica's tenth appearance at the Met Ball. However sources say she decided to miss the red carpet event in order to focus on the second series of her TV show Divorce.
Sarah Jessica has been known for paying "close attention" to the theme of the Met Ball each year, and previously defended her outfit for 2016's gala after a fashion blogger accused her of not adhering to the theme; 'Manus X Machina; Fashion in the age of technology'. Blogger Ivy Marshall shared a picture of Sarah alongside Diane Von Furstenberg and Madonna, telling her 2800 Instagram followers that the trio "didn't get the memo".

The post caught the attention of the actress, who wrote a comment defending her outfit choice. "Got the memo. Always welcome thoughts but I'm a stickler for the theme and pay close attention to what it means. Every year with great consideration, research and conviction," Sarah wrote. "The understanding of man and machine, how they intersect, when and why is what we considered. Perhaps you weren't aware of the technology used in the details and embellishments of the design.
