Princess Beatrice has revealed how she copes with public criticism, having endured unkind comments on everything from her weight to her fashion choices over the years. The 29-year-old royal was speaking at an event at the House of Lords to promote the Be Cool Be Nice anti-bullying book. Chatting to Vogue about her own experiences of bullying, she said: "My experience was about growing up and living in a very public life and living in an overexposed environment. So that's from being 18 and struggling with your weight to what fashion choices you are wearing."

The Princess also spoke about the outfit she wore to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding in 2011 – which received mixed comments from fashion critics. She said: "When everyone else was saying 'you look ridiculous', you have to have a sense of humour."

Princess Beatrice opened up about coping with public criticism

In October, Princess Beatrice – the oldest daughter of Sarah, Duchess of York, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York – chatted to HELLO! Online, and revealed that the two most important women in her life were her mum and her grandmother, the Queen. She said: "I have two role models, my mother and my grandmother. They are both formidable women. I think having female role models is incredibly important and I am very lucky that I happen to be related to these two incredible women."

Beatrice, who was speaking at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada, added that she finds her grandmother "inspiring every day". She said. "Every day she's curious to learn something new, to do something new, and I think that at 91 years old, she goes out into the community with a genuine curiosity as to how she can be a force for good in the world."

Of her mother Sarah, Beatrice described her as her "best friend." She said: "We've been through some incredibly stressful times together as a family and every single minute she created joy. I am so lucky that I get to learn from her every single day."
