When Meghan Markle stepped out in her Givenchy-designed dress for her wedding to Prince Harry in Windsor, fashion fans around the world were stunned at the elegant modern design and the exquisite five-metre long hand-embroidered veil. However, it seems at least one celebrity onlooker was slightly less than impressed. Katy Perry has rather bluntly announced that she believes the couture gown needed "one more fitting" and that she preferred the Duchess of Cambridge's Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen-designed wedding dress from 2011.
Many fashion fans loved Meghan's dress, but Katy Perry isn't so keen
When asked by Entertainment Tonight for her verdict on Meghan's dress, which was created by Givenchy's artistic director Clare Waight Keller, the signer replied: "I would have done one more fitting." She continued: "I'm never not going to tell the truth! One more fitting, but I love you." And when asked which Duchesses' bridal look she most preferred, Katy exclaimed: "Kate, Kate, Kate won, Kate won!"
Katy revealed she preferred Duchess Kate's iconic wedding dress
However, her criticism were reserved solely for Meghan's outfit choice, as the 33-year-old went on to explain that she is a huge fan of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as people. "I'm so happy for them, and, you know, I don't know them from Adam, but it's amazing what she's doing with all this, her humanitarian efforts," Katy said. "You know, the fact that she's a proud feminist, I love all that. I support her as another woman and love her and wish them both well."
With both women marrying the world's most famous brothers, it’s inevitable that both Kate and Meghan's dresses would attract comparisons. Kate made long sleeved wedding dresses popular again with her gown, and Meghan also chose to cover her arms as a mark of respect when marrying in a chapel. But aesthetically they were very different in other ways – Kate's was embellished all over with intricate embroidered motifs, whereas Meghan went for simple, clean lines and a timeless silhouette.
