The Prince and Princess of Wales made the 2026 Wimbledon final a family affair, with their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, stealing the show in the Royal Box at the All England Tennis and Croquet Club.

Watching Jannik Sinner take the trophy following his four-set victory over second seed Alexander Zverev, Charlotte looked poised in a bright blue midi dress with ruffled sleeves, which seemed to be inspired by her late grandmother Princess Diana.

One of Prince William's mother's most iconic looks of all time was the baby blue gown by Bruce Oldfield she wore to a charity ball in Sydney in March 1983.

Featuring the same layered shoulders as Charlotte's dress, then 22-year-old Diana's formal dress had an added touch of drama with the vertical ruffles that fell to the floor and metallic silver threads that caught the light as she danced with her husband.

While Charlotte accessorised her daytime look with a Ted Baker bracelet from John Lewis, Diana elevated her ensemble with a wide silver belt and the Spencer Family Tiara, which she had previously worn to marry then-Prince Charles.

Remembering Princess Diana

Despite the fact that royal fans have often pointed out the physical similarities between Charlotte and Diana, Prince William and Princess Kate have not commented on their likeness, noting instead that Charlotte is the spitting image of her father as a child.

The Prince and Princess of Wales prefer to honour Diana through living memory. William was just 15 years old when his mother tragically passed away in 1997, but as a father, he has made it a priority to ensure George, Charlotte, and Louis grow up knowing who she was.

Prince William reveals he keeps his late mother's memory alive with his three kids

"We've got more photos up around the house now of her, and we talk about her a bit. It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her, so she cannot really provide that level of detail," William said in the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.

"I regularly put George and Charlotte to bed, talk about her, and just try to remind them that there are two grandmothers – there were two grandmothers – in their lives. So it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed."
