On Friday, the Princess of Wales looked perfectly poised and stylish as she appeared in a series of stunning new portraits to mark her collaboration with the Royal Centre for Early Childhood, exploring how nature can support social and emotional development in babies and young children.

In photographs taken by royal photographer Josh Shinner in Cornwall earlier this week, Catherine looked joyful as she posed surrounded by countryside.

Blending into the natural background, the mother-of-three chose a gorgeous heritage-style ensemble. She debuted a new jumper by one of her favourite labels, ME+EM.

The £195 design featured an effortless blend of muted shades, including burgundy, khaki and navy. The Fair Isle style is made from a super-soft alpaca-wool blend and is framed by ribbed trims for a clean structure.

Layering up in style, Catherine wore the item over a pie-crust collar and added her trusty Barbour waxed jacket over the top. With her trademark long locks billowing in the breeze, the royal has never looked happier.

What is 'Grannycore'?

Catherine's new look is seen as nodding to the prolific trend of 'Grannycore', which is a playful term for timeless pieces that pair polish with practicality - elegant blouses with delicate details, ruffles aplenty, classic knitwear, and structured handbags and shoes that prioritise comfort.

Catherine's 'Fair Isle' focus

The Princess has always had a love affair with Fair Isle knitwear, a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours. One of her most-worn jumpers, which frequently makes an appearance during the festive season, is from sustainable British brand Brora.

A sustainable option as well as being intricately made - it's soft and created in the north of Scotland on a whole garment machine, meaning absolutely zero waste as well as no chance of splitting seams. You can still buy it now in a variety of colours for £275.

Emulate Catherine's Fair Isle look

There are many Fair Isle pieces available right now that we know would have Catherine's royal seal of approval.

Holland Cooper's 'Whistler Roll Neck Knit' features a high neck and features a similar colourway to her ME+EM knit, and this fabulous autumnal cardigan from Joe Browns subtly nods to the Nordic look with the same intricate pattern.
