Jeremy Renner and his neighbors have opened up on his horrifying snow plow accident on January 1 for a new special, Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview — A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph. The Marvel actor spoke to ABC journalist Diane about the terrifying moment near his Reno, Nev. home on New Year's Day in which the 52-year-old sustain 30 broken bones and chest trauma, among other injuries.
"At one point, he just got a clammy feel to him, he turned this gray-green color and I feel in my heart that I feel like we lost him for a second," neighbor Barb Fletcher said. "He closed his eyes. And I just tried to keep him awake. I really feel he did pass away for a couple of seconds. I really do."
Rich Kovach added: "He had some blood coming out of his ears, his nose for sure. And then his eye, it looked like it had been pushed out."
"It was a horrible sound to listen to someone… just literally watching somebody die in front of you, and you feel so helpless," Barb continued.
"This is the sound of someone that was dying," Rich told Diane after they listened to the 911 call.
Rich also detailed what we could see in the aftermath of the accident, which occured when Jeremy saved his nephew Alex from being run over by the snowplow; the vehicle began to slide and crushed the actor, according to an incident report released by authorities.
"When I looked at his head it appeared to me to be cracked wide open. And I could see white, I don't know if that was his skull ... maybe it was just my imagination but that's what I thought I saw," said Rich.
"If I was there, on my own, that would've been a horrible way to die," Avengers: Endgame actor Jeremy shared. "And surely, I would've. Surely. But I wasn't alone — [I was with] my nephew. Sweet Alex. And the rest of the calvary came."
© Jeremy RennerDespite the injuries sustained, Jeremy made it clear that he would "do it again" if a family member was in danger and revealed that he was "awake" for every moment of the accident, remembering the searing pain.
He also shared the injuries he is still battling, revealing he has limited sensitivity on the right side of his body and that he cannot feel "hardly any of my teeth as they went inside my face to put in two plates for the orbital crack".
In a defiant moment, he said: "I chose to survive. You're not going to kill me. No way."
On Tuesday April 11 Jeremy will walk his first red carpet since the accident as his Disney+ series Rennervations is set to premiere. In the four-episode series, the 52-year-old reimagine purpose-built vehicles into different creations, including turning a tour bus into a mobile music studio.
