Silent Witness made its long-awaited return to the BBC earlier this month, marking its 29th season in an impressive run that first landed on screens back in 1996.
The new chapter follows forensic scientists and newlyweds Dr Nikki Alexander and Jack Hodgson as they dig into a fresh case in Birmingham.
The first two episodes, titled The Disappearance of Alice Hill, saw the couple track down a suspected hitman after a dramatic hit and run, which opens up a cold disappearance case from five years earlier.
While fans have become familiar with the on-screen romances of the show's main characters, many may be surprised to learn more about their love lives off-screen. Although the cast tend to keep their private lives out of the spotlight, keep reading to find out everything we know…
While Emilia's character Nikki recently tied the knot with Jack, in real life the actress is believed to currently be single.
Emilia was previously romantically linked to TV producer Jonathan Stadlen after the pair reportedly met through a mutual friend in 2021. In an interview with The Times that year, the star said: "I am with someone and I am very happy and that's a really lovely thing to be able to say."
However, Emilia revealed the two parted ways in early 2025. Speaking to Woman & Home in January, the actress said: "Jonathan and I separated last February. I have only the very best of feelings towards him. Relationships are funny. They bring different things in different moments of the partnership, but it doesn't take away from the really wonderful times."
She continued that, with age, she has come to accept that breakups are a part of life. "The end of relationships are always sad, but I've been putting into practice things that have made me feel more positive, hopeful and optimistic."
After parting ways with Jonathan, Emilia threw herself into work and took a trip to Rome to take her mind off things. While she said she had no new love interests, she revealed she feels "positive, very invigorated and renewed" about the future.
Like his character Jack, David is also married. While he tends to keep his private life out of the spotlight, the actor is reportedly married to associate finance manager Verity Cunningham. After tying the knot in 2019, the pair went on to welcome two children together.
In a rare moment speaking about his family life, David appeared on The One Show in 2023, where he told host Alex Jones that his second child was expected within "the next couple of weeks".
Maggie has established herself as a firm favourite on Silent Witness since her debut on the show in 2025 as Professor Harriet Maven, head of the forensic laboratory at The Lyell Centre.
Despite her impressive list of previous roles, including Ridley, Rivals, Anatomy of a Scandal and Ten Percent, little is known about the actress's life off-screen.
When she's not on set, Maggie is said to spend her time with her dog, Jack, but whether she is joined by a romantic partner is unknown.
Alongside Maggie, Francesca also joined the show in 2025 as crime analyst Kit Brooks and, like her co-star, keeps her private life firmly out of the spotlight. The actress is not believed to currently be in a relationship.
One of the guest stars this season includes Ben, who is best known for his roles in Scott & Bailey, Riot Women and The Village. Ben is married to actress Rebecca Atkinson (Coronation Street), whom he met on the Channel 4 dramedy Shameless, in which they both starred.
The couple are thought to have been together for several years after first meeting on the Shameless set around 2009, before tying the knot in 2025.
Ben marked the happy day on Instagram by sharing a rare photo of him and his wife. He captioned the post: "'If I had to choose between breathing and loving you, I would say I love you with my last breath…' A truly magical moment in time…
"I admit to some hesitation in sharing too much about something so personal and precious, but I want the talent and dedication of the extraordinary people who helped make our day so beautiful to be acknowledged. We have been the recipients of some truly gifted people's hard work and dedication.
"This was so much more than a wedding to us. There is so much more to say, but we need to fly away and catch our breath. All our love and thanks to all our family and friends, old and new."
Silent Witness airs on BBC One at 9pm on Mondays and is available to stream on iPlayer.
