Set in Capri, the six-part drama has drawn comparisons to The White Lotus and follows Joe Mottram, a British detective who travels to visit his in-laws after the sudden death of his wife. Lost in his grief and trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter, Joe quickly becomes drawn into the local murder mysteries unfolding on the island.

If you're a fan of crime dramas set in beautiful locations and enjoy a unique culinary theme woven into the plot, then A Taste For Murder is well worth adding to your watchlist. With creator Matt Baker (Patience, Professor T, Hotel Portofino) at the helm and Whitstable Pearl director Jon Jones behind the camera, it's an easy and entertaining binge-watch for anyone with a gap in their viewing schedule.

What are viewers saying about A Taste For Murder?

Viewers have been fairly positive about the show, with many hailing it as an easy, escapist watch thanks to its sun-soaked setting, intriguing murder mysteries and vibrant visuals.

"Glorious Italian setting, brilliant cast, a deliciously escapist watch," said one viewer. "I like a good cosy procedural, but this is a notch above as the visuals are really cinematic and classy. Warren Brown and Phyllis Logan are a class act and the rest of the cast is just as good."

Meanwhile, another added: "So pleased with this lovely small mystery series, glad we found it. It's clever and has enough twists and turns that you have to pay attention and forget about everything else just for a few minutes."

A third added: "A Taste for Murder is lovely to look at – one of the best things about it is the visual beauty. As a fan of old Italian murder mysteries and someone who likes cosy British crime thrillers, I find it to be a light, enjoyable series."

What is A Taste For Murder about?

The story centres around DCI Joe Mottram, who, after the death of his wife, takes a break from his life in London. In an attempt to reconnect with his teenage daughter, Joe takes her to the island of Capri, where his late wife's parents, Chef Gennaro (Urbano Barberini, Casino Royale) and Elena Da Vinale (Phyllis Logan), run a popular coastal restaurant.

The synopsis reads: "Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating. His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father and detective.

"As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming – and which turns his world upside down."

What has the cast said about A Taste For Murder?

Reflecting on the days of filming on location in Italy and Croatia, lead actor Warren revealed on BBC Breakfast: "It looks a hell of a lot warmer on camera. It was earlier in the year and the weather wasn't always amazing. You watch it back and it's great and it looks stunning."

He continued: "There were a few occasions where we would get a call late at night: 'It's going to rain tomorrow, we're going indoors' so the schedule would change at the last minute. But, of course, you watch it and everything looks fantastic."

A Taste For Murder is available to watch on ITVX and Britbox.
