ABC's schedule for the 2026/2027 season has been confirmed – and it's very good news for fans of scripted series.
In a rare feat for a network, not a single series has been canceled for the 2026/2027 season, which ABC revealed on May 12 when it confirmed that they had renewed Scott Speedman's procedural R.J. Decker, the final show of 10 – seven dramas and three comedies – that was awaiting a decision.
But when and at what time will your favorite show return?
There are some big surprises – High Potential, a ratings smash for ABC, has been held until the midseason, while R.J. Decker will get a push as it is placed behind Dancing With The Stars on Tuesday nights; the competition show remains the network's biggest lead-in.
The show hits some ratings problems as it wobbled towards the middle of its first season, but ABC is clearly putting its weight behind the show with Ari Goldman, who serves as the SVP of Content Strategy & Scheduling for ABC Entertainment, admitting that they hope to use the show to "really infuse a lot of energy into this show [R.J. Decker] and get a jump on the season and bring it back as quickly as we can".
R.J. Decker stars Scott Speedman as a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. Station 19's Jaina Lee Ortiz also stars.
ABC's decision to reboot Scrubs has been a huge success after it premiered in February, bringing back the original cast, including Zach Braff and Donald Faison as J.D. and Turk, adapting to a new era of medicine while mentoring a fresh generation of interns. Ratings have remained high, alongside strong critics' scores.
The Emmy- and Globe-winning comedy will return for a sixth season, following the lives of teachers at a Philadelphia public school. The sitcom, a rare network awards crossover series, continues to dominate viewership ratings and received an early renewal due to high streaming numbers on Hulu/Disney.
After a tumultuous ninth season that saw the show recalibrate following the departure of Peter Krause (whose character was killed off in season eight), 9-1-1 will return for a monumental 10th season.
Season nine had a decline in its linear audience, yet retains a massive multi-platform viewing audience.
The 10th season will be a renewal in a lot of ways as Athena is now a detective, Buck has become the legal guardian of his biological son, and May is on a new path to become a nurse.
The second spin-off in the 9-1-1 franchise, Nashville has placed a strong focus on soapier storylines over the dramatic fire and rescue emergencies of the original franchise, which has seen it find a dedicated audience despite middling reviews and a decline in live ratings. It will return in fall 2026 for a second season.
Primetime's longest-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy has been officially renewed for a 23rd season.
The upcoming season will address cliffhangers from the season 22 finale, including Nick's answer after Meredith proposed, and a conclusion to the love triangle involving Simone, Lucas, and Wes.
Longtime stars Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) and Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) will not be returning, after exiting the show following the season 22 finale.
The biggest surprise of the ABC schedule? High Potential, with Kaitlin Olson, has been left off the fall schedule and sits on the bench for a midseason premiere.
The show premiered in January 2025 alongside The Rookie and Will Trent on Tuesday evenings, which the network lovingly dubbed "Tuesday Cluesday" as the shows all focused on solving criminal mysteries.
R.J. Decker replaced The Rookie in 2026, and presumably the new lineup will continue in 2027.
The Rookie moved to Monday's this year and is expected to stay there for the 2026/2027 season.
Ratings for season eight were some of the highest in five years, an encouragement for the network to renew it for a ninth season – and approve a new scripted spinoff, The Rookie: North, starring Jay Ellis as Alex Holland, a middle-aged man who, following a traumatic home invasion, leaves Los Angeles to become the oldest rookie in Washington state’s Pierce County.
The Kat Dennings and Tim Allen-led comedy has been an under-the-radar hit for ABC, thanks in large part to delayed and streaming viewership on Hulu and Disney+.
Although critics haven't been kind, the show was renewed for a third season.
After a dramatic fourth season that saw character deaths and upheaval in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Will Trent was renewed earlier in 2026 and has since been confirmed to return to screens in the midseason.
Considered one of the top-rated network shows, the season four finale earned 4.63M viewers.
