Prime Video has shared a first look at Keeley Hawes in the highly anticipated second season of The Assassin. The thriller, which viewers have hailed as "incredible," follows a retired assassin whose deadly past catches up with her just as she reunites with her estranged son, Edward (played by Freddie Highmore).
The newly released images feature Keeley and Freddie reprising their roles, while offering a first glimpse at new cast members Arnaud Binard (Emily in Paris) and Jacqueline Boatswain (Bridgerton).
Currently filming on location in Malta, the six-part series is penned by the award-winning duo Harry and Jack Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures – the acclaimed team behind The Tourist and Fleabag.
Having devoured the first season in one sitting, I am officially counting down the days until these new episodes drop. [Spoiler alert!] After season one's explosive finale, which saw Edward discover that Julie is not his biological mother and that his real father is the French arms dealer, Jean-Luc, I can't wait to see what's in store for the central pair in season two.
Here is everything we know so far…
What to expect from The Assassin season two
Season two picks up after Edward and Julie have returned from "a disastrous trip to Berlin, where they find themselves estranged once again following a mysterious fall-out no one is willing to discuss," according to the synopsis.
It continues: "Julie's days as an assassin are far from behind her as she has slipped back to her old ways, whilst navigating something just as perilous… the dating scene. When Edward's honeymoon with Kayla (Shalom Brune-Franklin) doesn’t go quite as planned, he must reunite with Julie to take on Spain's corrupt underworld, but can they survive the job and mend the rift that tore them apart?"
Who has joined the cast of season two?
Joining Keeley and Freddie in the cast are Shalom Brune-Franklin, who reprises her role as Kayla, and Devon Terrell, who returns as Ezra.
Season two also welcomes new cast members Arnaud Binard (Emily in Paris, Modern Family), who plays Bastien, a charismatic Frenchman whose path crosses with Julie, Natalia Tena (Riot Women, Harry Potter) as Inspector Cortez, a sharp Spanish detective and Boris Van Severen (Baptiste, Moresnet) as Titus, a desperate and conflicted Belgian man driven by resentment and loss.
Also joining season two are Jacqueline Boatswain (After The Flood, Bridgerton) as Isha Lockwood, a long-time employee of Ezra's father's mining empire and Monic Hendrickx (Penoza, Arcadia) as Louise, a complex figure who has a close connection to Julie and Edward.
Other cast members include Karl-El Santos (Stags, Yo Adicto), Mehdi Regragui (La Unidad Kabul, Los constructores de la Alhambra), Casimiro Aguza (Sin Lìmites, In From The Cold), Tony Corvillo (Nowhere, Mano de Hierro), Amin Hamada (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Mallorca Confidencial) and Lolo Herrero (El 47, Return to Las Sabinas), who form part of Cortez's team.
The Assassin season two will arrive on Prime Video in 2026.
