After a nearly three-year hiatus, Marc Warren is back on our screens in the anticipated fourth season of ITV's hit crime drama, Van der Valk. 

The 59-year-old plays street-smart detective Piet Van der Valk, a cynical sleuth who lives a solitary existence, alone on a canal boat docked in the harbour.

While Marc is a familiar face to many thanks to his various acting roles on both the big and small screen over the years, less is known about his personal life away from the cameras. Read on to find out all there is to know about his relationship history, including his two famous ex-girlfriends. 

Who is Marc Warren?

Born in Northampton in 1967, Marc developed a passion for performing arts at a young age and made his stage debut at the age of 19, appearing in a production of Stags and Hens at The Northampton Theatre Royal.

He joined the National Youth Theatre and went on to appear in various stage plays before landing his first major film role in the 1992 BBC film, An Ungentlemanly Act.

Since then he has starred in a wide variety of films and TV shows. His most notable roles include Albert Blithe in Band of Brothers, Danny Blue in Hustle, Dougie Raymond in The Vice and Rick in Mad Dogs.

He has also appeared in hit TV series such as Life on Mars, The Good Wife and Worried About the Boy. 

Marc Warren's relationship history

While Marc has remained fairly private about his romantic life over the years, he has previously opened up about his relationship with actress and former glamour model Abi Titmuss.

The couple dated for two years between 2007 and 2009, during which time Marc shared his hopes of starting a family.

"I'm at an age where I look at kids and think 'that really appeals to me,'" he told The Mirror

"I know everyone says they change your life and they can be a nightmare but they also fill your life with joy. I'm in my 40s now and it is something I'm thinking about."

Meanwhile, Abi shed light on their romance during an interview with the Daily Star. "I've never been so in love. He really is my soulmate," she said in 2008. "You know when you have that warm glow, well that's what it's like with Marc."

Then in 2012, rumours began to circulate that Marc was dating Chloe Madeley, the daughter of TV presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan.

The pair, who made headlines due to their 21-year age gap, were pictured kissing outside a cocktail bar in Brighton. However, neither party publicly confirmed the romance. 

Marc Warren's love life

Marc keeps his personal life out of the spotlight, so little is known about his current relationship status.

However, he has previously opened up about his low-key lifestyle. Speaking about the similarities between himself and his on-screen counterpart, Piet Van Der Valk, Marc told The i Paper in 2022: "He is very interested in leading that solitary life. I can relate to that, as I spend most of my life as a real loner."
