The New York, Milan, London and Paris shows of Autumn/Winter 2023 have finally drawn to a close. Designers and fashion’s finest front row guests alike brought us a slew of new trends to experiment with and plenty of styles from last year that we can carry on loving for 2023.

Although you may not feel like sticking bows onto your cheekbones (a la Susan Fang’s models on the runway), these are five trends you need to try from fashion month AW23…

Sheer Joy

16Arlington, Valentino, Giambat Valli

A trend that has dominated parties and red carpets since Autumn 2022, the naked dress trend permeated through fashion month from start to finish. Giambattista Valli and Valentino presented incredible floor-length gowns during Paris Fashion Week that will make for perfect evening wear later in the year. If the plethora of naked dresses on the runway wasn’t enough to convince you, perhaps Florence Pugh’s front row appearance in a sheer skirt and Dua Lipa’s gothic lace dress at the GCDS show, is. Start with a sheer top with a feminine bralet underneath to ease yourself in.

Up Your Shoulder Game

Victoria Beckham, Simkhai, GCDS

Shoulder pads are back with a bang according to Victoria Beckham’s AW23 Paris show. Prada styled skinny trousers and blazers with unbuttoned blouses underneath and GCDS and Ferragamo both jumped on the ‘no trousers? No problem’ trend – more of that below… but even if you’re not brave enough to bare all on the bottom half, adding some interest to your tailored pieces is easy. Bring the power dressing with wide shoulders, go oversized and eschew a base layer, or go cropped as Jonathan Simkhai suggested. Wear the crop with high waisted trousers to give the illusion of extra height.

Take A Bow

Rodarte, Huishan Zhang, Simone Rocha

The insanely popular corsage (thanks, Harry Styles) flooded runways this month. But if you fancy going against the grain, the ever-returning bow is back in all its glory for 2023. Simone Rocha, Yuhan Wang, Rodarte and Khaite were amongst those who used the delicate adornment to add a touch of femininity. But it was Susan Fang who made the strongest case for the detailing, with models sporting bows in their hair and across their faces, alongside their clothing.

Trousers? Less is More

Michael Kors, Miu Miu, Christian Siriano

Do we owe this trend to Kendall Jenner and Bottega Veneta? Perhaps. Because clearly she was onto something when her tights and hotpants look sent the fashion world into a frenzy in 2022. She one-upped the daring visible lingerie trend and persuaded us to just eschew lower half attire altogether. Emily Ratajkowski closed the Simkhai show in a stunning black and silver embellished blazer that stole the limelight (because there were no other garments to steal it). Christian Siriano, Dion Lee and Miu Miu also made planning an outfit 50% easier. Emma Corrin closing Miu Miu on the final night in embellished gold hot pants absolutely won Paris Fashion Week.

Animal Crackers

Sportmax, Burberry, Jil Sander

A major lesson from the Autumn/Winter shows is no amount of animal print is too much animal print. Where to begin? Jil Sander brought zebra print bags, Burberry made a case for duck hats, Sportmax showcased snake print two pieces. If that wasn’t enough, Stella Mccartney literally brought a horse-powered show with seven beautiful ponies cantering alongside models.
