Sarah Ferguson, 66, has remained largely off-grid ever since departing Royal Lodge, staying out of the media while the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor furore continues. The latest is that Andrew is taking the police to court over alleged unlawful searches of his properties. Meanwhile, the mother of two has been spotted on a handful of occasions in Europe, and there are also reports about a £10,000-a-month rental in the Home Counties, but could she be heading Down Under to retreat forever?
Sarah's rarely-mentioned sister, Jane Ferguson Luedecke, lives in Australia, so this could provide a lifeline for Sarah, who has been dropped as a charity ambassador. Not much is known about Jane, but she lives in Lake Tuggerah, New South Wales. She is believed to live with her partner Ramin Marzbani. Jane is a businesswoman who sells pet products for a living.
Being on the other side of the world would certainly provide the former royal with privacy away from the UK press and the ongoing Andrew drama at present. Plus, she would likely be able to live a life somewhat unrecognised. Her daughter, Princess Eugenie, has previously spoken out about her love for living in Portugal for that very reason. During a podcast episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, she admitted: "This is why Portugal is the dream because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares," she said.
Sarah has recently become a grandmother again, with Eugenie becoming a mother to her third child, a girl called Adelaide, who arrived on 3 August. It is thought Sarah would have gone to Portugal, which is where the baby was born, but formally, her whereabouts remain unknown.
A UK bolthole?
According to The Sun, the former Duchess of York is due to move into a rented £10,000-a-month gated property in the Home Counties. Sarah's new abode is said to have six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a "granny annexe". We are yet to see if this comes to fruition. The monthly sum comes amid continued speculation surrounding her finances, with reports emerging of book deals and potential inheritance from her ex Paddy McNally.
It has been alleged that Sarah once found herself in £3 million worth of personal debt in the mid-1990s and at times required Queen Elizabeth II to write off some of her debts.
