The Queen and three future Kings – Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George – are pictured together in one of the photographs taken after the intimate ceremony.

Three-month-old George sat contentedly in his proud father's arms wearing the magnificent replica of the 172-year-old Honiton lace and white satin gown.

The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge all coordinated their outfits for the historic photoshoot wearing blue-hued outfits.

The monarch wore a sky blue Stewart Parvin ensemble, while Charles and William stood either side of her sporting darker blue suits.

The last time four generations of royals gathered was in 1894 at the christening of the future king Edward VIII who was pictured with his father George V, grandfather Edward VII and great-grandmother Victoria.

The photos were taken in Clarence House at around four o'clock. The privileged invitees later enjoyed a reception there hosted by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The christening cake served was one of the tiers from William and Kate's eight-tiered wedding cake from their spectacular 2011 nuptials.

Baby George appeared peaceful and calm throughout proceedings from his arrival at the Chapel Royal to the official photoshoot which was conducted by celebrity photographer Jason Bell.

As well as immediate royal and Middleton family members, Prince George's seven godparents also attended the ceremony.
