The Duchess of Edinburgh joined senior members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, on the Buckingham Palace on balcony on Saturday, 13 June for the Trooping the Colour celebrations.

While the festivities were underway, Sophie shared a sweet behind-the-scenes moment with her great-niece Charlotte, 11, and her two great-nephews George, 12, and Louis, eight.

In photos captured by Peter MacDiarmid, the Duchess, who attended alongside her husband, Prince Edward, was spotted keeping an eye on the Waleses children as the royals all gathered to watch the ceremony from the Buckingham Palace windows. As expressive as ever, Louis looked enthralled at what was going on outside while his siblings kept their composure.

Charlotte was her great-aunt's twin in matching white attire as they were pictured side-by-side inside the palace. Sophie, who travelled in a carriage alongside Princess Anne's husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, looked elegant in an off-white belted dress for the special occasion with a sharp collar. She finished her formal look with a complementary white hat with an extravagant floral detail.

"Princess Charlotte has become something of a fashion icon for timeless, heritage-inspired dressing," baby and kids stylist, Charlotte Kewley, told HELLO!. "Her outfits are always beautiful and avoid any obvious trends, but it's the thoughtful details that make her look; the neatly tied hair bow, velvet collars, patent Mary Janes, and the classic wool coat," she added.

The Wales children's day out

Charlotte, George and Louis are regular attendees at Trooping the Colour alongside their parents. The well-behaved royal siblings travelled to Buckingham Palace together on Saturday in the same carriage as their mother, the Princess of Wales.

Brothers George and Louis were dressed in their most formal attire for the occasion, both looking grown up in suits with matching light blue ties. The young royals coordinated with their mother who looked beautiful in a Catherine Walker coat dress.

The Princess of Wales was seen quietly parenting her three children throughout the day. The royal chose to sit beside her youngest child, Louis, in the Ascot Landau luxury carriage and was seen chatting with her eight-year-old son on the journey.

Kate later subtly corrected Louis and Charlotte's positions on the balcony after the two walked slightly too far.
